What You Will Do
The Mechanical Design Engineering Group in Accelerator Operations and Technology Division (AOT‑MDE) provides mechanical engineering support to accelerator technology challenges and operates the LANSCE Accelerator Facility's mechanical systems. AOT‑MDE designs and drafts mechanical systems for LANSCE accelerator projects and uses SolidWorks and PDM Professional as primary CAD platforms.
Design/Drafter 3 ($64,700 - $101,400) Seeking a self‑motivated Designer/Drafter to administer CAD systems and draft designs. Responsibilities include specifying computer systems, setting up hardware, maintaining CAD licenses, installing software, performing CAD upgrades, developing CAD libraries and templates, drafting for group projects, and resolving CAD and PDM technical issues.

Minimum Job Requirements
Intermediate experience with 3‑D CAD (SolidWorks or CREO) and PDM software.
Intermediate understanding of modeling, drawing drafting principles, and GD&T concepts.
Intermediate knowledge of mechanical and electro‑mechanical engineering concepts.
Intermediate knowledge of ASME, ANSI, AWS and related industry standards.
Intermediate use of drafting practices in accordance with ASME Y14.5 and ability to incorporate GD&T.
Strong oral and written communication with scientists, engineers and fabrication personnel.
Education/Experience Associate’s Degree in an Engineering or Technical field and 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Experience setting up new computer hardware, printers, scanners, plotters.
Experience installing, deploying, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting and updating software.
Experience providing technical support and end‑user assistance; interacts with LANL IT personnel and CAD vendors.
Knowledge of specifying computing systems and choosing hardware requirements such as CPUs and GPUs.
Experience performing data backups.
Familiar with installing and configuring SolidWorks CAD, PDM Professional, NX CAD and ANSYS Simulation Software.
Ability to create and maintain CAD standards, templates, folder structures, naming conventions and library components.
Essential Job Functions Peripheral vision, depth perception, reading vision, distance vision, ability to discriminate speech, normal hearing (500‑3000 Hz), sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, twisting the trunk or back, reaching overhead, reaching horizontally, reaching down, applying torque with hands or arms, and lifting 30+ pounds.
