Engineering Manager, Civil Land Development
Base pay range
$113,000.00/yr - $157,000.00/yr

We are hiring a Civil Engineering Manager to lead our Land Development team in Newport Beach. This is a great opportunity for a licensed Professional Civil Engineer with over 7 years of experience in land development infrastructure design. The ideal candidate brings technical expertise, leadership skills, and a collaborative mindset to support complex projects, mentor junior staff, and grow into a project management role within a dynamic and team environment.
Responsibilities
Lead technical delivery of small to medium land development projects; support financial management as needed
Supervise, mentor, and support career development of engineering staff
Plan and organize project tasks; delegate assignments and coordinate team efforts
Serve as professional‑in‑charge, making final decisions and consulting on complex issues
Manage grading, drainage, and utility design (water, sewer) for site development
Oversee preparation of reports, master planning studies, specifications, and cost estimates
Ensure quality control (QA/QC) and identify out‑of‑scope services
Collaborate with design teams and provide cross‑team training/support
Prepare proposals including scope, schedule, and fee estimates
Act as primary client contact; attend project meetings and manage sub‑consultants
Assist with budgeting, invoicing, and monthly billing
Apply knowledge of federal, state, and local standards to project design
Support business development through cross‑selling and identifying new opportunities
Requirements
7+ years of experience in land development in site development, design of residential and/or commercial subdivisions, utility systems, roadways, and public works projects
B.S in Civil Engineering or related field from an ABET‑Accredited Curriculum or equivalent required
Must have a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the state of California
Strong experience in complete streets, multimodal design, and roadway or transit infrastructure projects
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D (or similar design software)
Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations.
Work Conditions: Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high‑stress, fast‑paced, deadline‑oriented environment. Travel to other BKF locations and client sites may be required.
Benefits
The typical base salary range for this position is $113,000.00-$157,000.00 annually, depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. This is a salary position paid biweekly.
