The Automation & Controls Engineer will support the development of new products by designing PLC control systems for use in manufacturing processes. This position requires collaboration across multiple departments to ensure successful project delivery.
What you will accomplish together with us
Support the development of products through knowledge of the performance requirements, including all aspects of the product design criteria, product function, and customer needs. Review customer RFQ's with a focus on electrical design requirements and specifications. Preparation of Electrical Architecture, Hardware design specifications, Bill Of Material, Major Component List, Electrical Load calculation, Heat Load calculation, Cabinet Design, Electrical / Pneumatic Schematics for assigned projects. Contribute as a team member on development projects carrying out assigned responsibilities in a timely, diligent, safe, and professional manner. Providing pro-active contribution to development projects by working collaboratively in cross-functional teams. Develop and document PLC programs for industrial automation projects using ladder logic and functional block diagramming languages (e.g., Function Block Diagram, Sequential Function Chart). Configure PLC hardware components such as I/O modules, communication networks, and motion controls. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, process engineers, quality assurance, and operations personnel. Support system testing and commissioning activities. Provide technical assistance during start-up and production. Troubleshoot issues related to programmable controllers and associated peripherals Occasional travel to clients or vendor locations. What will convince us
Bachelors' degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or related field. 2+ years of experience in delivering instrumentation deliverables on time. Current working knowledge of US electrical codes and standards including UL 508/508A, NFPA 70/70e/79, etc. Capable of specifying instrumentation and automation controls Including design, review, and associated documentation requirements. Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical, SAP, Eplan, PLC systems, HMI, MS Office. Proficiency with PLC programming languages including ladder logic and functional block diagramming languages (e.g., Function Block Diagram, Sequential Function Chart). Strong knowledge of PLC hardware components such as I/O modules, communication networks, and motion controls. Experience with SCADA and HMI software packages. Knowledge of safety circuits and safety PLC protocols (e.g., Safety PLC Protocol - SAFEPROF). Travel: 20% travel visiting customer sites with potential for one trip per year international. We value
