About the Organization National Immigration Law Center (NILC) is a leading nonprofit organization that defends and advances the rights of low‑income immigrants and their families. Founded in 1979, NILC works to promote justice and equity through advocacy, research, and public education.

Position Overview The Director, Fundraising Campaigns reports to the Vice President, Development and leads the Design, Execution, and Growth of major gifts, mid‑level donor programs, and direct marketing initiatives. This leadership role drives a collaborative, strategic fundraising strategy that aligns with NILC’s mission and expands our donor base.

Responsibilities

Conceptualize, develop, and implement integrated fundraising campaigns for Major and Principal Gifts.

Create innovative strategies for major giving across NILC and the affiliated Immigrant Justice Fund (IJF) 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4).

Oversee cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a high‑level prospect portfolio (50+ individual donors).

Collaborate with Communications to launch programs that grow the mid‑level donor program.

Align fundraising campaigns with programmatic plans, including complex initiatives involving internal partners.

Lead research on foundation funder interests and donor giving trends.

Maintain knowledge of best practices, technology, and regulatory changes in development and marketing.

Manage cross‑functional projects using MOCHA methodology.

Develop and steward donor recognition and cultivation programs.

Coordinate small event planning and donor engagement events.

Recruit, interview, hire, and coach staff; manage performance and coaching.

Manage outside consultants, vendors, and third‑party administrators.

Champion NILC and IJF’s mission with integrity, transparency, and accountability.

Qualifications Required

High School diploma required.

10+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience focused on designing and executing large‑scale campaigns across multiple channels.

At least 4 years of supervisory and team management experience.

Deep attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills.

Strong project management skills in fast‑paced environments.

Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and strategies.

Extensive knowledge of fundraising best practices and ability to leverage that knowledge program design.

History of cultivating lasting partnerships that generate reliable financial support.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, MBA, or other higher education preferred.

Experience raising funds for 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations and knowledge of compliance rules.

Experience with and strategic use of advanced CRM systems (Raiser’s Edge preferred).

Remote Work Locations Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Georgia, Maryland, Montana, North Carolina, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin.

Compensation & Benefits Salary range

$132,644 – $165,830. NILC provides competitive benefits including employer‑paid health care, dental and vision coverage, 403(b) retirement plan with automatic contribution, paid parental leave, monthly cell phone and wellness stipends, pre‑tax transit and childcare accounts, paid time off, and public service loan forgiveness (PSLF) program eligibility.
