Primary Purpose

Under the Vice President, Student Services, the Dean administers the Counseling and Student Development Division, supervises staff, and collaborates with outreach services and the College. Job Description

Administer campus counseling services and student development programs, lead department operations, manage budgets, coordinate compliance with regulations, and develop innovative counseling and student services initiatives. Working Relationships

The Dean maintains frequent contact with college and district administrators, faculty, and staff. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of District organization, operations, policies and objectives. Knowledge of California education code and requirements, including Title 5. Knowledge of research project policies, procedures and practices, including data collection and analysis. Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary. Knowledge of educational pedagogy and student success strategies applicable for the diverse community college student body. Knowledge of record keeping procedures. Knowledge of budget preparation and maintenance. Ability to interpret, apply and explain laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to assess, analyze, implement and evaluate research project activities. Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work. Ability to meet schedules and time lines. Ability to work independently with little direction. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions. Ability to communicate efficiently both orally and in writing. Ability to supervise, train and provide work direction to others. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Special Requirements

All degrees must be verifiable on a legible transcript. Degrees and coursework must be from accredited post?secondary institutions. Minimum Qualifications

Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution and at least one year of formal training, internship or leadership experience related to the assignment. Commitment to diversity and demonstrated sensitivity to diverse student, faculty, staff backgrounds. Desirable Qualifications

Masters Degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, Career Development or California license as a Marriage and Family Therapist or California counseling credential with community college supervisor credential. Three years of management experience at the community college level. Four years full?time counseling experience at the community college level. Knowledge of current trends in counseling, matriculation and career development programs. Proven ability to administer budgets and oversee fiscal reporting. Experience providing leadership in student discipline with understanding of Title IX. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with faculty, administrators, staff and students. Experience leading, developing and implementing diversity, inclusion, and equity efforts for students and/or employees.

Working Conditions

Office environment; frequent interruptions; sitting for long periods (up to 2?3 hours); may require off?site duties. Salary Range
