Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Field Service Manager, this position drives a lube truck and performs off‑site lubrication by servicing, completing preventive maintenance work on heavy equipment; performing minor mechanical field repairs on equipment; maintaining records and preventive maintenance schedules for assigned equipment.
Essential Functions:
Drive a lube truck to various locations and perform servicing on diesel powered vehicles and equipment by fueling, lubricating, changing oil, changing air and oil filters, and checking and adding fluids, including windshield washers, transmissions, cooling systems, brakes, and differentials.
Perform all requirements found in any Caterpillar Lubrication & Maintenance Guide.
Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on brake adjustments, leak repairs, removal and installation of radiators and thermostats and replacing hoses, fan belts, alternators, regulators, and batteries.
Make any necessary adjustments on engines as well as to the components in the various systems.
Replace heavy equipment components including grader blades and cutting edges.
Provide mechanical preventive maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
Prepare mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
Make warranty recommendations and reports in representation of a CAT product.
Maintain quality service by following organization standards.
Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing publications.
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required:
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of two‑year’s experience in performing servicing, preventative maintenance, vehicle and equipment inspection work including mechanical repairs on automotive or diesel equipment vehicles; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to multi‑task and establish priorities.
Must have good verbal and written communication skills and proper business etiquette; customer service aptitude.
Ability to work in a team environment and possess a positive attitude.
Must have a valid Class “B” California State Drivers’ License with a clean driving record.
Furnish all hand tools required to repair, test and diagnose hydraulic, air, power train, electrical and electronic systems on Caterpillar equipment.
Note: Some high dollar tooling is supplied by Hawthorne.
Physical Demands:
Walking and moving about on foot often through uneven terrain.
Hands/arms operating equipment, hand and power tools.
Handling: Works with hands.
Lifting: Raises or lowers miscellaneous equipment parts and tools. Lifts up to 60 pounds. Frequent exertion.
Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction.
Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.
Standing: Remains in standing position if required for certain repair or maintenance work.
Climbing: In and out of equipment.
Vision: Reads work tickets, parts and service books and operate heavy equipment.
Talking: Communicates via telecommunications and in person.
Hearing: Hears well enough to discern mechanical problems for safety in and around shop and construction sites and to receive communication via telecommunications and in person.
Sitting: Sits in equipment and vehicles.
Laying: Lies in prone position under vehicles and equipment.
Environmental Conditions:
Noise: Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.
Temperatures/Weather: Works outside and in shop with variations of temperature and weather.
Exposure: Foul orders, fumes and harsh substances.
