Overview
Salt Lake Community College, in collaboration with the Social Work Department, seeks to attract faculty of the highest caliber that are skilled in the scholarship of teaching, discovery, application, and integration of knowledge. Salt Lake Community College values faculty with experience and/or theoretical understanding of the value of high-impact practices (HIPs), with an emphasis on undergraduate research. Under general supervision, the faculty member will prepare and teach lecture, hybrid, and distance-learning Social Work (SW) and Substance Use Disorder Counselor (SUDC) courses as assigned by the department. The faculty member will participate in department, school, college, and community forums and meetings, serve on College and Department committees, engage with the community in multiple roles, mentor departmental adjunct faculty, and participate in professional development activities. The faculty member will teach an average of 15 instructional units (credit hours) per semester in the Social Work Program at Salt Lake Community College. The selected faculty member will teach day, evening, and weekend classes in accordance with established guidelines and policies. Faculty participate in advising, committee assignments, academic and institutional support activities, and supervisory responsibilities. Much of the teaching load will consist of introductory SUDC, BHT, and Social Work Program courses, and duties will include participation in curriculum development and coordination of the periodic review of the Social Work Program in collaboration with other faculty members. Starting salary is commensurate with degrees and experience. Depending on departmental need, a summer contract equal to approximately 23% of the nine-month contract total may also be available. Compensation for the nine-month contract will be paid out over twelve months. The faculty member is eligible for the College’s benefits package, which includes insurance coverage and retirement contributions. Priority Review Date: December 1, 2025. Teach courses consistent with department procedures, the appropriate Course Curriculum Outline (CCO), and catalog description. Provide each student with a syllabus using the college approved medium, such as simple syllabus, on the first day of class that complies with department procedures and CCO. Teach assigned classes during the required contact hours at the scheduled time and place. Demonstrate incorporation of active and applied learning in courses taught (hands-on and engaged activities). Oversee student facilitation of weekly student-led psycho-education groups. Provide timely and clear feedback for all assignments. Participate in curriculum development and related activities as a contributing team member of the program area. Maintain a significant campus presence and respond to instruction and daily needs of students, departments, college, and community. Meet with students outside of class a minimum of 5 hours per week in-person or online. Provide employment-based advising to students seeking post-graduation employment in the field of addictions counseling. Be available to teach courses at times directed by academic needs of the program. Grade and return assignments, quizzes, etc. within 10 business days of submission. Contribute to ongoing course quality, design, and integrity through college-wide assessment of student learning. Maintain attendance records as required for social work licensure programs. Collaborate with colleagues for instructional improvement. Coordinate/facilitate Social Work Program and field supervisor events as assigned. Respond to voicemail and email promptly (generally within 1–2 contract days). Facilitate a minimum of one continuing education workshop for Social Work students preparing to apply for licensure through DOPL (example: 2-hour suicide training). Serve community partners as content area experts, when needed. Contribute to the growth of the social work field program by adding community partners and coordinating with new practicum site supervisors. Mentor adjuncts as assigned. Attend convocation, SLCC 360 professional development day, commencement and other institutional meetings, department meetings, or social work program events. Handle/respond appropriately, and within a timely manner, to student concerns/complaints. Participate in student recruitment and retention strategies and engage with community organizations and advisory boards as requested. Demonstrate a strong commitment to professional standards and conduct as reflected by relevant codes (NAADAC and NASW). Qualifications
Substance Use Disorder Counselor (SUDC) or equivalent certification. Master of Social Work (MSW) from an CSWE-accredited college or university. Clinical License (LCSW) in Social Work (Utah preferred). Evidence of current licensure as a social worker. Clinical Addictions Counselor License (LSUDC, ASUDC, MAC) (Utah preferred). Evidence of current licensure as an addictions counselor. Minimum of two years full-time addictions-specific direct client and supervisory social work practice experience. Minimum 1-year part-time paid teaching in an addictions program in higher education in Utah. Three or more years paid experience teaching BHT, SUDC and Social Work courses in higher education, with preference for more experience. Currently completing or completed Doctor of Social Work (DSW) from a regionally accredited college or university. Three or more years full-time addictions-specific direct client and supervisory social work practice experience, with preference for more experience. Fluent in American Psychological Association (APA) formatting. Experience in grant writing and grant management. Experience in facilitating undergraduate research. Commitment to improving access and retention to higher education for students from under-represented communities. Strong communication and cross-cultural abilities for effective collaboration with a diverse student and colleague community. A rigorous understanding of the scholarship, theory, and practice of teaching and learning, including teaching and learning pedagogy, research methods and design, and integrated curriculum.
