Summary
The manager is responsible for the development and implementation of new billing, reimbursement and collection policies and procedures, which improve and maximize MyMichigan Physicians Group’s (MPG) cash flow and customer service. The position manages the direction of all centralized billing functions which include Insurance Billing, Payment Posting and Support Services. Responsibilities
Plans, develops, recommends and implements new procedures for the Central Billing Office, resulting in improvements in receivable days and cash flow while maintaining community goodwill. Manages, leads, coordinates and directs the activities of Central Billing Office employees and serves as liaison with Regional Directors, Practice Managers, Coding Resource Manager, Coding Consultants and other MPG Central Billing Office staff. Assesses and ensures the department operates in a manner that maintains or improves productivity, quality and average days outstanding. Actively participates with other MPG staff and committees to educate, improve and develop awareness of third‑party billing requirements, collection procedures and other pertinent areas of business related to centralized billing operations. Establishes training programs for employees in a formalized setting to ensure satisfactory performance and provides ongoing staff education. Maintains fiscal responsibility for preparing and monitoring the department operating budgets and capital budgets. Qualifications
Minimum of eight years of work experience, with at least five of those years in a health care setting and demonstrated leadership skills. Preferred: ten years of experience, five years in a physician billing setting and two years managerial experience in a computerized setting. Outstanding written and oral communication skills. Office equipment skills, organizational and analytical skills. Human relation skills, interviewing and excellent people skills required. Two years in a computerized setting that utilized various PC software required. Certifications and Licensures
NIMS IS 100: NIMS IS 100 Introduction Incident Command System (Within 6 months of hire or transfer) NIMS IS 700: NIMS IS 700 Introduction National Incident Management System (Within 6 months of hire or transfer) NIMS IS 200: NIMS IS 200 Basic Incident Command System Initial Response (Within 6 months of hire or transfer) Oral Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certificate or Certified Coding Specialist‑Physician Office (CCS‑P) certificate preferred. Required Education
Bachelor’s degree. Preferred: 4‑year degree in Business Administration, health care service management or related field. Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions
Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief and death. Ability to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitutes. Must be able to move freely throughout the facility and perform job functions. Frequent sitting, standing and walking for long periods of time; occasional lifting or carrying of 0‑10 lbs.
