Overview The immediate vacancy is located at the Halawa Correctional Facility. This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. Duties Summary Supervises and participates in performing a variety of manual work in groundskeeping as a major work assignment. Supervises the work of a crew in performing manual work in the cleaning, care and maintenance of landscaped grounds and adjacent areas; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Legal Authorization To Work Requirement: The State of Hawaiʻi requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Experience and Training: Two years of full-time work experience in the care and maintenance of grounds and other landscaped areas; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Knowledge of: Care and cultivation of shrubs, flowers, trees, and lawns; use, care and operation of grounds maintenance equipment such as a power mower, edgers and trimmers, as well as hand tools used in grounds maintenance work.
Ability to: Assign and supervise the work of others, keep time and attendance records; gain the cooperation of others; understand and follow oral and written instructions; operate and use grounds maintenance equipment and hand tools; perform lifting, carrying and other manual work typical of the class.
Driver's License: Some positions require possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment. The immediate vacancy has this requirement.
Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement: As required by PREA, Federal law states that an agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates and who has certain disqualifications described in PREA.
Other Requirements
Applicants who are conditionally offered employment or movement into positions with the Department of Public Safety are subject to drug screening and a comprehensive background check; applicants will be responsible for costs involved.
