Job Summary
The Assistant Director for Student Transitions and Success is a critical member of the Center for Campus Life and the Student Engagement Team at Rochester Institute of Technology. The role reports to the Associate Director for Student Transitions and Success and provides leadership and support for the development and delivery of New Student Orientation, Transfer Student Orientation, and Off‑Campus and Commuter Services (OCCS). The Assistant Director helps create a welcoming environment for new students, supports smooth transitions into university life and off‑campus living, and develops educational and leadership opportunities for student leaders.
Job Responsibilities
Plan and collaborate with campus partners to develop and provide orientation and commuter student programming.
Train and develop orientation and commuter student leaders and employees.
Manage and train campus group related content for orientation and commuter student services.
Collaborate with colleagues to ensure accurate marketing, communications, and promotion materials are created in support of orientation and commuter student services.
Plan events, conduct risk management, and assess orientation and commuter programming in collaboration with the Associate Director and Senior Associate Director.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, social work, or related field.
1–2 years of full‑time professional experience working within higher education student affairs.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Deaf culture, American Sign Language, or willingness to learn.
Experience with student staff development and supervision.
Skills
Effective interpersonal, written, and electronic communication skills.
Ability to manage confidential and private information.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse constituencies.
Knowledge of legal and risk management policies and university guidelines.
Budget experience and acumen.
Experience with student staff development and supervision.
Computer competence using software and enterprise systems appropriate for the role.

The Center for Campus Life provides broad support for student engagement, fosters a sense of community, and enhances visibility of student organizations and campus activities. The department works strategically to meet evolving student needs in a changing national landscape.
Salary Range
$41,600 – $69,700 per year full time.
