Process Safety Engineer - Chemical Manufacturing - NYC
Base pay: $90,000 - $125,000 per year.
Description The Process Safety Engineer - Chemical Manufacturing will be responsible for the following:
Develop and implement a comprehensive PSM program in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 and other applicable regulations.
Lead process hazard analyses (PHA), HAZOPs, LOPA, and risk assessments.
Establish and maintain management of change (MOC) and pre-startup safety review (PSSR) procedures.
Partner with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to ensure safety is integrated throughout the process lifecycle.
Develop and deliver training programs for employees on process safety and hazard management.
Create and maintain process safety documentation, including P&IDs, safety data sheets, and operating procedures.
Support incident investigations and implement corrective actions related to process safety events.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety systems, process design, and plant operations.
Collaborate with regulatory agencies and internal auditors to ensure compliance and readiness.
Profile The ideal Process Safety Engineer - Chemical Manufacturing will have the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
5+ years of experience in process safety, preferably in chemical or high-hazard manufacturing.
Strong knowledge of OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, and industry best practices (CCPS, NFPA, API).
Proven ability to develop and implement PSM systems from the ground up.
Experience with PHA/HAZOP facilitation, incident investigation, and MOC processes.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills.
P.E., CSP, or PSM certification preferred.
