Overview

Central Sterile Processing Supervisor at Emory Healthcare. 2pm - 10:30pm / Full Time / 40 hours. Responsibilities

Coordinate and oversee daily activities between the Operating Room (OR) and Central Sterile Services Department (CSS) to facilitate efficient case flow. Promote customer service and satisfaction through training, education, and resolution of staff and physician issues and concerns. Maintain knowledge of cleaning, assembling, packaging and sterilizing of all instruments and equipment according to CBSPD, AAMI, and IA HCSMM current standards. Act as liaison between SPD and OR to maintain workflow; foster positive work relationships with clinical leaders and surgeons. Collaborate with Clinical Team Leaders, SPD and surgical resources coordinator to resolve issues and identify instrument needs or opportunities for improvement. Develop in-service education programs with SPD Educator; assist in orientation of new personnel. Assess supplies for prescribed procedures; set up case carts; maintain inventory; ensure instrument trays and patient care equipment are ready for cases. Manage department workflow, communicate instrument and supply needs, and resolve issues or offer alternatives as needed. Recommend maintenance for Physician preference cards; mentor and develop others; participate in change initiatives and projects to improve clinical care and safety. Direct department workflow during off-shifts or weekends in the absence of the Manager; communicate errors in real time to SPD leadership. Model professional behavior, provide frontline support, and serve as a resource for internal and external customers. Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required; some college or an Associate’s degree preferred, or Surgical Technologist experience. Minimum of 2 years of experience in sterile processing, healthcare environment, or operating room scrub. Sterile Processing Technician Certification (CBSPD/CRCST) required; for Surgical Tech, 6 months to obtain certification. CHL Certification or CIS; supervisory experience waived if Surgical Technologist. Good oral and written communication skills and computer skills; ability to read, comprehend, and follow instructions; ability to perform basic math. Physical Requirements

Medium physical effort; lifting up to 50 lbs; standing and walking, with varying percentages throughout the day. Occasional to frequent standing and walking; occasional sitting; close eye work (computers, reading, writing). Environmental Factors

Exposure to blood-borne pathogens, bio-hazardous waste, chemicals, and other workplace hazards; use of PPE as required. Shift work, travel may be required; varying environmental conditions by assigned area.
