Job Description
Join us as a Structural Design Engineer I at Sunflower Electric Power Corporation. Summary : Assist with planning, performing design, and supporting installation and commissioning of all components and equipment associated with electrical transmission facilities. Essential Responsibilities : Transmission Line and Substation Structural Design: Conduct line routing, structure design and selection, conductor evaluation, and structure spotting. Prepare and obtain permits for transmission line and substation projects. Prepare construction drawings, bills-of-materials, and construction contract documents while being mindful of budget estimates. Conduct failure investigations, review projects that impact existing or planned transmission facilities, and implement new technologies. Meet with and provide technical support to customers and Sunflower Members. Develop and review engineering documents such as calculations, specifications, and procedures. Perform on-site fieldwork as required. Standards : Ensure compliance with applicable American National Standards Institute/Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (ANSI/IEEE), North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Reliability, National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), American Society for Testing and Materials (ATSM), and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) standards. Safety : Approach personal safety and coworker safety with a positive attitude and commitment, maintaining the highest level of responsibility and accountability in compliance with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Qualifications : Certifications and Licenses: Successful completion of Fundamental Engineering Exam is preferred. Education and Experience: Bachelor degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET accredited institution. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Develop and maintain ability to prepare budgets and estimates, sound organizational and time management skills, and current knowledge base of design techniques and equipment requirements.
