Overview
Works within a Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) department under Facilities Management at a VA facility. Supports the medical equipment management program. Troubleshoots and performs planned maintenance on a range of medical devices and clinical systems. Note:

Manages the lifecycle of medical equipment and clinical systems. Troubleshoots medical equipment and clinical systems using various technical data and performs corrective actions. Performs incoming inspections and planned maintenance on medical equipment and clinical systems. Documents all work in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Responds to hazard alerts, recall notifications, and incidents concerning medical equipment and clinical systems, and documents actions in the appropriate system. Monitors system backups, ensures network connectivity, mitigates cybersecurity vulnerabilities, and maintains clinical systems. Uses test equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions. Manages projects involving medical equipment and clinical systems. Provides customer support to staff, evaluates issues and needs, responds with solutions, and communicates status to customers. Educates staff on safe operation and user-level maintenance of medical equipment and clinical systems. Serves as a Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) and/or purchase card holder as applicable. Develops documentation to purchase commodities or vendor services; manages, monitors, and evaluates contractor performance and addresses issues or deficiencies. Work schedule and telework

Basic Requirements
: U.S. citizenship and education/experience/certification options, including: Associates or higher degree in biomedical technology/biomedical engineering; or Associates or higher degree in electronics, IT, or engineering plus 1 year of creditable experience; or Completion of DOD biomedical equipment technician training; or Completion of DOD training in repair/maintenance of electronic systems or IT plus 1 year of creditable experience; or Completion of a HTM/biomedical engineering certificate program with internship/apprenticeship; or HTM/biomedical engineering certificate program without internship plus 1 year of creditable experience; or Certification such as CBET, CRES, CLES, or CTHM (with ongoing maintenance not required for VA employment). Foreign Education:
Education completed outside the U.S. must be deemed equivalent by a private organization specializing in foreign credentials. Grade determinations
: Criteria for GS-5 through GS-11, including creditable experience, quality of experience, and KSAs, are described in the VA Qualification Standards for Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist at each grade level. Basic KSAs at higher grades include
knowledge of physics, anatomy, electronics, test equipment, networking concepts, and ability to document services in CMMS; for higher grades, additional KSAs cover standards compliance, advanced testing, project management, and maintenance of medical computers and software. Reference
