The NYC Department of Transportation's Facilities and Security Management Unit seeks to hire a Stationary Engineer to serve within the Facilities Maintenance team. DOT Facilities and Security Management supports a large portfolio of leased or City-owned facilities across more than 6 million square feet of office, yard, workshop, manufacturing, and warehouse space throughout the City. Under supervision, the Stationary Engineer operates, maintains, and adjusts steam power plant and electromechanical building equipment; performs related work.
The Stationary Engineer will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following tasks:
Operates, maintains, and adjusts boilers, furnaces, engines, pumps, heat exchangers, generators, motors, chillers, cooling towers, and equipment for heating, ventilating, air conditioning, lighting, and associated systems in public buildings, municipal pumping stations, and incinerators.
Makes periodic inspections of equipment and performs minor repairs.
Performs preventive maintenance.
Assumes responsibility for a watch, overseeing subordinate personnel.
Operates control consoles in control rooms as needed.
Prepares requisitions for materials and spare parts.
Instructs and trains subordinate staff and other personnel.
Reads meters, gauges, and recording devices; logs data accordingly.
Keeps records and compiles reports.
Inspects low-pressure boilers in accordance with NYC Department of Buildings procedures, as directed.
Requirements:
A valid license for High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the NYC Department of Buildings, maintained throughout employment.
Certificate of Qualification for Refrigerating Machine Operator (Unlimited Capacity) issued by the NYC Fire Department, maintained throughout employment.
Minimum Qualifications:
A valid license for High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the NYC Department of Buildings.
Preferred Skills:
Current NYC Stationary Engineer license for high-pressure steam.
