Job Description Senior Controls Engineer

develops, implements, trouble shoots and optimizes controls systems on in house new and existing production equipment. Candidate will be a critical member of a highly motivated Automation Engineering team focused on producing industry leading advanced power component solutions used in industrial, hyperscalers, AI, aerospace, defense, and automotive industries.

Primary Responsibilities

Robot Programming and Trouble Shooting

Proficient with 6 Axis and SCARA robots programming

A plus if familiar with either Adept or Mitushubi robot systems

Experience programming robot new applications from the floor up

Capable of diagnosing robot control issues and implementing timely solutions

Work closely with Technical Support on robot product change over and provide technical training

Vision

Familiar with vision systems such as Cognex Insight, Vision Pro and VIDI

Experience integrating vision part location in overall control system

Experience programming part inspection either by rules based or AI model building

Secondary Responsibilities

Electrical & Controls design

Design, develop, test, and support controls systems including conceptualization of control systems, development of schematics, development machine to network communication configurations, component specification, costing, panel building and wiring

Provide electrical designs and programming within applicable standards to build new or modify existing production machines and systems

Project Management and Technical Team Leadership

A plus having prior experience supporting and leading technically teams in the design, development and optimization of custom automation machinery and tooling

Adheres to scope, quality, schedule, and budget requirements of assigned tasks

Ability to balance the need to “keep things running” with allocating time to long-term, high-impact projects

SME

Provide SME (subject matter expert) support to Manufacturing, Technical Support, Manufacturing Engineering and other departments for the design and operation of control process automation systems

Network: Support Technical Support

Work closely with Technical Support to identify root cause of network communication issues between equipment and Vicor’s LAN system

Work with Technical Support to install, program, troubleshoot or repair IP based code scanners on Vicor’s LAN system

Support Technical Support Department

Ability to debug electrical control systems to the component level

Ability to trouble shoot PLC control systems

Provide Technical Support floor support for pneumatics, servos, VFDs, relays, communication networks, touchscreens, and automation systems integration

Provide Technical Support floor support for Software, PLC logic, and program troubleshooting

Work with and assist Technical Support to solve issues, transfer knowledge and know-how

Generates manuals, design documents

Develop electrical schematics detailing control system configuration and wiring, and design equipment panel layouts on CAD software

Create accurate BOMs (Bill of Materials)

Write user manuals, programming diagrams, network diagrams, and electrical drawings to communicate to Line Techs and Engineers

Safety Standards

Abides and practices corporate, NFPA and OSHA standards for electrical systems standardization

Capital Engineering Projects

Support capital engineering projects for new equipment, including scanner to network configurations, auto recipe software and hardware integration, coordination with vendors for power and network construction, and new equipment startups

Maintain Knowledge

Maintain knowledge of advanced developments in sensors, scanners, measurement systems, and vision systems

Research supplier products for assembly components

Motion Control

Familiar with various Motion Controllers and Actuators

Education / Qualifications

A BS Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering

Minimum 5 – 7 years of experience in supporting manufacturing automation

Experience with robot programing, HMI programing, Servo Control programing, PLC trouble shooting and electrical control schematic design

Experience with Vision Systems a plus

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Familiarity with CAD and office tools (3D CAD, Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.)

Ability to work independently and drive projects to completion

Compensation Data

Salary Range: $100,000 - $130,000

Please note: This range is based on our current market driven pay structures. Individual salaries are determined based upon a variety of factors including but not limited to, a candidates overall qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience as well as company internal equity
