Responsibilities
Design, develop, analyze, and test new and existing electrical products to specifications provided by the customer and/or marketing. Designs are hardware or firmware based and can utilize analog, digital, or mixed signal technologies.
Perform ancillary New Product Development tasks including competitive product reverse engineering, breadboarding, circuit simulation, PCB layout, electronic component and assembly documentation, and lab guidance of product testing through third party submittals.
Ensure products are developed on schedule and at cost, meeting design specifications and third-party listings. Interface with product managers, project engineers, mechanical engineers, firmware engineers, laboratory engineers, and FCC/ISED engineers as needed.
Interface with production personnel to release new manufacturing test programs, procedures, and equipment, and support design-for-manufacturability.
Direct investigation, analysis, and approval of suppliers/vendors, new materials, components, technology, bills of materials, and engineering practices.
Interface with standards and testing labs to ensure design for compliance (e.g., CSA, UL, FCC/ISED).
Perform other similar and related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education:
Minimum Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering or Electrical Technology.
Experience:
2+ years of relevant experience in a new product design.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
Working knowledge of component-level circuit design, troubleshooting, test analysis, and design-for-manufacturability. Proficiency with Altium, SPICE, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and project management software. Ability to read simple C code and interface with microcontrollers.
Strong communication skills and ability to work across levels of the organization.
