Civil/Water Resources Engineer
in our Transportation and Infrastructure division. The successful candidate will be an experienced professional with a comprehensive understanding of water resources tasks, including drainage, erosion and sediment pollution control (ESPC), post construction stormwater management (PCSM), and hydrology/hydraulics engineering. They should be capable of designing conveyance systems and solving waterway and NPDES permitting challenges for bridge and highway projects. Responsibilities include storm sewer and channel design, hydrologic studies, hydraulic modeling, scour analysis, technical writing, waterway and NPDES permitting, among others.
Responsibilities
Deliver conveyance, ESPC, and PCSM calculations and plans, NPDES permits, and waterway permits to PA DEP, NJ DEP, and Army Corps of Engineers.
Serve as a task leader for drainage, ESPC, PCSM, hydraulic and hydrology, and waterway permitting activities across Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Design H&H and waterway permits for various projects including highway, bridge replacements, rehabilitations, and preservation.
Design storm sewer systems utilizing NJDOT and PennDOT practices.
Develop ESPC staging, detailing, grading designs, BMP calculations, and narratives to support waterway and NPDES permits.
Perform PCSM volume, rate, and water quality analyses, along with SCM and BMP design, watershed routing, and related documentation.
Seal Drainage and H&H Reports, ESPC, and PCSM Plans as a PE, ensuring quality control.
Manage multiple projects, coordinate with project teams, and mentor less experienced staff.
Conduct hydrologic, hydraulic, surface water modeling, scour evaluations, mitigation designs, and erosion controls.
Work with alternative delivery methods such as design/build and accelerated bridge construction.
Required Skills
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (MS preferred) with at least 8 years of experience.
PA and/or NJ Professional Engineering License.
Experience with hydrology and hydraulics software such as HEC-RAS, FHWA HY-8, Watershed Modeling System (WMS), MicroStation, Bentley InRoads, HydroCAD, Pondpack, etc.
Knowledge of PennDOT, PA Turnpike, NJDOT, and NJ Turnpike standards and regulations.
Understanding of PADEP & NJDEP Stormwater Management Rules, BMP Manual, floodplain management, and related permitting requirements.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
