About HopFlyt
HopFlyt is an innovative UAS company developing next-generation electric and hybrid‑electric VTOL aircraft for dual‑use applications. We are a small, fast‑moving team focused on bringing American‑built, next generation, cutting‑edge unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to market. Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in 3‑D modeling, composite materials/manufacturing, rapid prototyping, and UAS systems to join our on‑site engineering team in Salisbury, MD. This position is ideal for an experienced engineer who thrives in a hands‑on, fast‑paced environment and is comfortable working across design, prototyping, and testing phases. Key Responsibilities
Design and develop mechanical and structural components for UAS systems, focusing on composite structures. Interface and work closely with composite manufacturing partners from concept to final composite structure assembly. Work in multi‑user CAD environments with a focus on version control and collaborative design. Utilize Product Data Management (PDM) and/or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools to support development workflows. Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on composite and metallic structures and interpret post‑analysis results. Fabricate and assemble prototypes, including composite layups, trimming, bonding, and testing. Collaborate cross‑functionally with design, manufacturing, electrical, and flight test teams. Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field. Minimum 5 years of professional experience in: 3‑D modeling and collaborative CAD environments (e.g., SolidWorks PDM, CATIA, NX, Onshape). PDM/PLM systems for managing product data. Structural simulation, including FEA of composite materials. Hands‑on composite fabrication and layup techniques. Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, tolerancing, and DFM. Strong knowledge in classical laminate theory and composite failure modes. Experience applying ASME drawing standards including GD&T. Preferred Skills
Electrical system design or wire harness integration. UAS system design and rapid prototyping. CNC machining and G‑code familiarity. PCB layout and design tools (e.g., Altium, KiCad). What We Offer
Salary range: $80,000-$125,000 (depending on experience). A full‑time, on‑site role with a hands‑on impact on next‑generation drone development. Opportunity to work on advanced UAS systems in a collaborative and fast‑paced engineering environment. Hands‑on, high‑impact role in a dynamic R&D environment. Career growth alongside a passionate, mission‑driven team. Contribution to next‑generation American aerospace innovation. How to Apply
