Basic Function The basic function of the structural fitter is responsible for assembling metal parts to create finished sheet or structural metal projects.
Responsibilities and Duties
Have layout and fitting experience with miscellaneous metal and structural steel (e.g., beams, columns, base plates, handrails, stairs, etc.)
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and templates
Lay out, position, align, and fit together fabricated parts of structural metals according to blueprints and layout specifications for welding or riveting
Use tools such as jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, hammers, etc., to cut, bend, and straighten metal
Locate and mark work-piece bending and cutting lines, considering stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other specifications
Mark reference points onto floors or face blocks and transpose them to workpieces using measuring devices, squares, chalk, and soapstone
Educational Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent required
Experience Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
