Industrial Engineer position focused on evaluating and improving plant performance in the areas of safety, quality, production output and operating cost. The role involves research, data gathering, experiments, and developing preliminary findings to recommend improvements using the Boise Improvement Cycle. Responsibilities
In-house engineering feasibility studies, system trials, cost estimates, capital project planning, design, scheduling and installations that optimize new and existing equipment. All aspects of capital project management. Collaborate with plant management and maintenance personnel to correct production issues and ensure operating efficiencies. Demonstrate adaptability, anticipate problems, and provide innovative, data-driven solutions. Maintain knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and technological advances to maximize operating efficiency. Contribute to evaluating and improving plant performance in safety, quality, production output and operating costs. May be responsible for environmental programs, permits, audits and administration. Provide engineering oversight for development of software programs and functionality as needed. Communicate effectively in individual and group settings, adjusting language to the audience. Read and interpret Computer Aided Design drawings and blueprints. Understand project management concepts, systems, and techniques. Act as a participative and influential team player to achieve production outcomes and organizational goals. Maintain sound judgment and stable performance under stress or ambiguity. Demonstrate strong commitment to safety, quality, environmental awareness, and continuous process improvement. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Minimum Education/Experience/Physical Functions
Bachelor of Science required; preferably in engineering, wood products or business. This developmental position provides the technical exposure to the business and environment to apply education and experience, with opportunities to develop understanding of operations at the plant level. Preferred Qualifications
Preferred degree in Business, Engineering, or Wood Products (Natural Resources) with 0-4 years of related experience. Ability to apply mathematical concepts and use computer applications; strong communication skills; flexibility in scheduling. Experience in continuous manufacturing operations and knowledge of wood products is recommended; knowledge of continuous improvement tools, facilitation, troubleshooting and process controls is a plus. Decisions are limited to the immediate scope of work. Supervisor guidance and routine reviews are expected. Scope
