Early Career
Geotechnical Engineer
for our
Tucson, AZ
office. The following locations will also be considered:
Reno, NV
and
Denver, CO . Be involved in projects with our Mine Engineering and Stability Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Your Impact
Supporting senior and intermediate engineering staff in completion of projects in the area of Open Pit and Underground mining rock mechanics and mine closure
Performing field work, data collection, field testing, data analysis, excavation stability assessments, and calculations
Researching specific rock engineering and mine closure problems
Field work will include some aspects of surveying, drilling coordination, geotechnical core logging/mapping, and construction monitoring
Data reduction and analysis of investigation data
Preparing and working with 2D and 3D models
Assisting with geotechnical characterization and assessments in support of underground, open pit, and mine closure rock mechanics projects
Assisting with the preparation of technical reports
Role will include a combination of office and field work
Who You Are
Bachelor's Degree Civil, Mining or Geological Engineering.
0 to 1 year of relevant post education experience in engineering and prior geotechnical design experience.
Proficient demonstrated knowledge of geotechnical engineering including: evaluating slope stability, seismic engineering, retaining wall design, earth retention, rock mechanics, ground improvement techniques, support of excavation, dewatering, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
Proficient understanding of the disciplines of rock and soil mechanics to perform mine stability analysis of both surface and underground mining operations.
Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including scoping, and tracking hours and expenses for project work.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
Relevant consulting or operating experience in a mining or consulting setting.
Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution
Ability to travel and work in other WSP offices as required
Proficient in AutoCAD
Proficient with Microsoft Office and general computer usage
Demonstrates a 'Safety First' focus attitude and traits in line with WSP’s core values
Strong organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree Civil, Mining or Geological Engineering.
Knowledge of programming language (VB, python, or other) would be an asset.
Possesses or eligible to receive EIT Certification.

Compensation Expected Salary (Colorado only): $58,200 - $82,000
