FORTNA
Overview
The Electrical Engineer IV is focused on designing complete control solutions for site-based conveyor systems for distribution, fulfillment, parcel, and warehouse applications. The applicant will be part of a controls and engineering team deploying complex material handling solutions for various customers and container types. A successful applicant will have a desire to learn and improve upon numerous technologies developed by FORTNA in sortation, singulation, gapping, induction, merging etc. Electrical Engineer IV candidates are considered subject matter experts, familiar with all aspects of the Electrical Engineering Team’s deliverables and processes and seeks for solutions to improve and streamline the department’s overall efficiency. Will assume a leadership role for the work group when needed.
Responsibilities
Knowledge and mastery of all required functions of the Electrical Engineering Team:
Develop overall system design using IEC/US standards, customer specifications and FORTNA guidelines.
Utilize Autodesk ACAD-E and other FORTNA custom tools to complete drawings for control panels, power distribution single lines, conveyor layouts, and other electrical drawings as required.
Apply sound engineering principles and methods to meet project goals for scalable and robust solutions.
Calculate power requirements and ratings for single line diagrams and control panels.
Develop and release bill of materials for panels and field devices.
Mentor and instruct junior engineers on how to design systems, create drawings and meet project goals using standards, specifications, guidelines, and best practices.
Review and critique drawings and solutions as a quality assurance check before releasing drawings to manufacturing.
Utilize manufacturing and installation best practices to simplify and improve current design guidelines.
Apply experience to lead research and development projects.
Be able to work and meet deadlines under pressure within aggressive schedules.
Collaborate with other teams within the group and/or company to identify common problems and solutions.
May be asked to lead teams or supervise junior engineers as required.
May be involved in developing budgets, estimating labor, material, and construction costs.

Knowledge of AB, Schneider, Beckhoff and/or Siemens electrical products.
Knowledge of hardware used in material handling systems, i.e. sorters, conveyors, panel electrical components, field electrical components etc.
Advanced Knowledge and experience of NEC and NFPA and UL508A.
Previous experience using AutoCAD-Electrical (ACAD-E) and Vault to create/store electrical drawings and schematics required.
Knowledge of industrial network protocols (EthernetIP, Profibus, EtherCAT).
Familiarity with PLCs (AB, Beckhoff, Schneider or Siemens), and VFD solutions. PLC programming experience is a plus.
Familiarity with Indusoft, Wonderware, FactoryTalk View and/ or Ignition is a plus.
Education & Experience
B.S. Degree in Engineering with 10+ years relevant work experience.
M.S Degree in Engineering with 8+ years relevant work experience.
6-8 years of previous Material Handling experience.
Individuals without an Engineering degree but with an equivalent level of work experience will be considered.
Other qualifications desired
Professional Engineer License is a plus.
Experience with Microsoft 365 - Office Apps.
The ability to juggle multiple tasks and changing priorities.
Physical requirements
General office environment with normal sitting, standing and minimal, nominal lifting.
PPE may be required at customer locations.
Some climbing may be required at customer locations.
Travel requirements
Travel required, up to 25%.
