The Team Black & Veatch's Fuels and Natural Resources (F&NR) Team

provides services from consulting, design, full engineering, procurement & construction (EPC), and commissioning & start-up for LNG facilities, Floating LNG facilities, gas processing & NGL fractionation, gasification & gas to liquids, hydrogen, and ammonia & fertilizers. Our knowledge, capabilities, and innovation include our proprietary PRICO technologies. This enables our team to assess and choose tailored solutions with greater quality and efficiency for our clients. The value chain spans natural gas, natural gas liquids, midstream, wholesale markets, power generation, and utility segments.

The Opportunity As

Senior Electrical Engineer , you will have the opportunity to:

Work as a

Technical Expert or Project Lead

performing all aspects of conventional design engineering and analysis.

Support projects encompassing a variety of areas such as Hydrocarbon Processing (HPI), hydrogen, ammonia & fertilizer, FLNG, LNG and new energy.

Explore various technologies within the process space to expand your skillset and knowledge.

Develop electrical drawing deliverables including :

One line and three line diagrams

Electrical motor schematics, breaker control schematics and wiring diagrams

Power cable sizing and cable schedules

Complex engineering calculations such as: load flow, short circuit, motor starting (ETAP or SKM), Arc flash analysis (ETAP or SKM), protective relay settings

Develop electrical equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM) for procurement and construction

Create man hour budgets and schedule for projects and proposals

Attend on-site meetings, investigate existing conditions, interface with clients and provide support during construction

Extensively use Microsoft Office, ETAP, SKM, AutoCAD to view and manipulate engineering drawing files

If you want to grow and further develop your technical skills in the Gas, Fuels and Chemicals (GFC) industry alongside our most talented engineering professionals and clients, this is an excellent opportunity. Although project experience in GFC is preferred, we are interested in candidates with any Power Generation Facility design experience (e.g., Power Plants, Nuclear Plants, Hydrogen Facilities, etc.).

The selected candidate must be located or willing to relocate to our World Headquarters location in Overland Park, KS (Kansas City), or one of our Flagship Offices in Houston, TX or Raleigh, NC.

Key Responsibilities

Proactively provides guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and BV policies. May own, maintain, update, or develop engineering standards and guides. Provide technical guidance to others regarding projects or disciplines.

Applies knowledge and ensures compliance with BV quality program. Establishes related processes, and promotes a culture conducive to quality. Supports continuous improvement, change management and risk management efforts.

Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for multiple or mega projects. Performs complex research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection. Oversees collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work.

Prepares complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles. Manages assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Develops and applies advanced engineering solutions to complex problems. Responsible for ensuring project teams delegate appropriate tasks to lower level team members to develop depth of project execution staff. Reviews lower level engineering work or assignments.

Acts as lead for defined scope and coordinates multi-discipline activity. Establishes work plans for projects.

Coordinates with internal/external team members on complex projects. Defines project schedules for single or multiple disciplines.

Identifies client interests and drivers and develops approaches to address them in project performance. May support business development or pursuit activities.

Serves as the technical specialist in a broad area of specialization. Supports multiple projects on very complex technical challenges and may act as an engineering consultant for large-scale projects.

Mentors lower to mid-level professionals and contributes to career development and succession planning.

Management Responsibilities Supervises work of others. Responsible for hiring, discipline, and pay administration of subordinates.

Preferred Qualifications

Oil & Gas project experience, contributing as a design engineer

Project Lead experience and SME in LNG, FLNG, hydrogen, ammonia & fertilizers

Ability to deal with ambiguity and build effective teams

Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and standards related to the discipline

Petrochemical or Process Industry experience

Working knowledge of the NEC (NFPA 70)

Experience with Hazardous Area Classifications per NEC and API

Experience with ETAP or SKM software

Experience with industrial power distribution system designs including MV/LV switchgear, MCCs, VFDs, transformers, batteries and UPS

Experience with protective relay settings and sizing calculations

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited program or equivalent experience

Minimum of 11 years related work experience

Active Engineering Registration or Licensure (PE) to support engineer of record where required

Certifications

Active Engineering Registration or Licensure (PE) to support engineer of record where required

Work Environment/Physical Demands Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based on manager discretion, performance, and assignments.
