What You Get To Do:
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes for sheet metal fabrication and painting operations including specifying equipment and raw materials. This role works closely with production, quality, and maintenance teams to improve efficiency, ensure product quality, and support new product introduction from concept to production. Frequent weekly travel is required between our Gammalux facility in San Dimas, CA, and our Elemental LED facility in Reno, NV. Responsibilities
Process Development & Optimization Design and document efficient fabrication processes for laser cutting, punching, bending, welding, and painting Create material and labor estimates Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions Optimize machine setups, tooling selection, and part nesting to reduce cycle times and material waste Recommend and implement lean manufacturing techniques to improve workflow Equipment & Tooling Specify, source, and justify new equipment and tooling to improve productivity and quality Design shop floor layouts to optimize production flow Collaborate with vendors on sheet metal and painting machinery selection Oversee installation, commissioning, and operator training for new equipment CAD/CAM & Technical Support Create and modify part drawings using CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.) Generate CNC programs for lasers, punches, press brakes, and painting line automation Troubleshoot technical production issues and provide engineering solutions Quality & Compliance Ensure processes meet quality standards and customer specifications Participate in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) activities Ensure painting operations meet environmental, health, and safety regulations Project Management Lead continuous improvement projects and track performance metrics (OEE, scrap rate, throughput) Coordinate with cross-functional teams on new product introduction (NPI) projects Manage timelines, budgets, and technical documentation Performs additional duties as assigned Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience. 10+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in a sheet metal fabrication environment. Experience with painting processes, surface preparation, and curing equipment. Proficient in CAD (SolidWorks, Inventor, or AutoCAD) and CAM/nesting software (e.g., BySoft, SigmaNEST) Understanding of CNC laser, turret punch, press brake, welding, and painting operations. Amada experience a plus Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work. Employees must possess the ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds and heavier using proper equipment Perks and Benefits
