Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient
Programmer
to support our fabrication operations by programming and nesting parts for Trumpf lasers, press brakes, punch machines, and other fabrication equipment. This position plays a critical role in ensuring precision, efficiency, and productivity across all CNC-operated fabrication equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong CAD/CAM skills, a solid understanding of Plant Power and Control Systems, and experience working in a high-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities Create accurate and optimized programs for Trumpf laser cutters, electric and hydraulic press brakes, and CNC punch machines.
Perform nesting of sheet metal parts to maximize material utilization and minimize waste.
Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and 3D models to create fabrication-ready files.
Collaborate with design, engineering, and production teams to ensure manufacturability and quality standards are met.
Maintain a database of programs, part files, and material specifications for reference and reuse.
Adjust programs based on equipment capabilities, material types, tooling, and operator feedback.
Monitor and support machine operators with troubleshooting related to programmed files.
Ensure all programs comply with plant power and control system requirements and operational safety guidelines.
Continuously improve programming methods to reduce cycle times and improve part quality.
Stay up to date with software updates and best practices in nesting and CNC programming.
Provide input for equipment upgrades and tooling requirements based on programming needs.
Minimum Education
Trade School
Minimum Years Of Experience
2-4
Qualifications Associate degree or technical diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing, or related field preferred.
3+ years of experience in CNC programming, nesting, or CAD/CAM within a metal fabrication or industrial environment.
Proficiency in nesting software (e.g., TruTops, Radan, SigmaNEST) and CAD platforms (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes and tooling.
Familiarity with Trumpf lasers, press brakes, and punch machines is highly desirable.
Knowledge of electrical/control systems integration with fabrication equipment.
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to troubleshoot and modify programs quickly in response to production needs.
Preferred Experience working in a plant with integrated power and control systems.
Basic knowledge of PLC or automation systems.
Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma exposure.
