The State and Local Tax team is dedicated to helping businesses navigate the complex and ever-changing world of state and local taxation. With deep technical expertise and a client-focused approach, the team provides strategic insights and hands-on support across key SALT areas-including income and franchise tax, sales and use tax, property tax, unclaimed property, and credits and incentives. Their goal is to help clients minimize risk, enhance compliance, and identify meaningful opportunities for tax savings.
What You Will Do
Lead property tax engagement teams, delivering strategic guidance and oversight for large, multi-jurisdictional clients.
Oversee the preparation and maintenance of comprehensive tax calendars, ensuring timely compliance and deliverables.
Manage fixed asset and inventory reconciliations to support accurate reporting and minimize audit exposure.
Direct the preparation and filing of personal property renditions across multiple taxing jurisdictions.
Review property tax bills and assessments for accuracy, identifying potential overcharges or savings opportunities.
Coordinate and execute assessment protests, including valuation challenges and jurisdictional appeals.
Guide consulting projects such as valuation studies, obsolescence analyses, and the resolution of duplicate assessments.
Mentor and develop property tax team members, fostering technical expertise and professional growth.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and prospects through responsive communication, strategic insight, and trusted advisory support.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Taxation or related field
4.5+ years of experience in public accounting tax, property tax, or SALT
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Experience with CCH Intelliconnect, RIA Checkpoint, and/or BNA Tax research software
Current and valid CPA, ASA, CMEA, CMI - Property Tax (from IPT) certification, or hold a JD or LLM
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in Accounting, Taxation, or a related field
Experience managing multi-state property tax compliance and consulting engagements
Familiarity with indirect tax areas such as sales/use tax, unclaimed property, and excise tax
