Overview
Facilities Planning, Design and Construction (FPDC) manages funds and projects designated by The University of Texas System for improvements to MD Anderson facilities. The professionals working in FPDC provide architectural and engineering services, space standards and planning, and interior specifications for their projects.
FPDC also handles the creation of long-term development plans for the institution and for specific divisions within MD Anderson.
Institutional Projects FPDC’s Institutional Projects team is composed of four groups, each led by a principal project manager, focusing on Facilities Renewal, Patient Care Facilities, Capital Equipment/Patient Care Facilities, and Research and Administrative Facilities. The projects support all institutional mission areas, including patient care, research, and administration, and are committed to enhancing the patient experience and advancing research.
Ideal Candidate Ideal candidate will have three+ years in healthcare construction in a project management role, strong background in healthcare construction/medical/research facilities, and experience managing complex projects from inception to completion. The top candidate will also be an effective communicator, possess problem‑solving abilities, and demonstrate strong attention to detail.

Summary The primary purpose of the Facilities Project Manager position is to represent FPDC when providing project management expertise in management of one or more assigned projects. The role assists in the management of complex major and less complex capital facility projects and demonstrates project management skills in the integration and coordination of project elements, delegation of activities, scope management, time management, cost management, quality assurance, change priorities, and communication management.
Job Specific Competencies Project Management Manages key project aspects of scope, budget, schedule, and contract compliance. Ensures projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and according to quality standards. Guides and manages the Project Team to productive actions through conflict management and effective communication.
Compliance/Regulations Manages contractual compliance and relationships, defines and implements contractual and financial strategies, coordinates approval procedures with BOR, THECB, FSC and associated State Agencies, and supports ROCIP on selected projects.
Documentation/Recordkeeping Develops and manages project documentation, record keeping, financial and activity status reports that are accurate, up-to-date, clear and complete. Ensures documentation records are organized and stored properly.
Other duties as assigned.
Required
Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Architectural Engineering or related field.
Three years project management/construction management experience.
Bachelor’s degree may be substituted with additional years of equivalent experience on a one‑to‑one basis.
Preferred
Five years project management/construction management experience.
Design and construction experience with major academic healthcare and/or research facility.
