As an active member of the Sexually Violent Persons Unit, this position provides care, custody, and control of residents on the assigned unit. Works under the direction of a Residential Program Specialist III and completes program assignments in a timely and productive manner. Interacts with residents one-to-one or in groups, provides activities, assists residents with orientation to the milieu, observes behavior, documents information, writes incident reports, and participates in crisis intervention and behavior management procedures when needed. Provides for residents’ care in activities of daily living, environmental hygiene, transfers, and feeding assistance. Utilizes security and safety duties to maintain order and discipline, conducts inspections, escorts, and supports recreational activities, and participates in unit shift meetings. The position may serve as lead RPS staff for the unit(s) and may assist in orientation and training of Residential Program Specialist I staff. Occasional travel or alternate-location meetings may be required. Responsibilities

Lead Residential Program Specialist staff for the unit(s) with responsibility for directing daily unit/program activities; assist in orientation and training of Residential Program Specialist I staff; interact with residents and provide activities in line with unit guidelines. Compile information, document in electronic medical records, and write incident reports in proper format. Provide resident escorts inside and outside the facility and into the community as needed. Receive requests from residents for personal calls and visits; review rules and policies with residents and notify them of decisions. Assist residents in orientation to the milieu; observe behavior and participate in crisis intervention and behavior management procedures; respond to a wide variety of incidents and coordinate with clinical staff. Inspect resident rooms for cleanliness and policy compliance; search for contraband; participate in games, sports, and recreational activities as part of program engagement. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

Interpersonal communications, crisis intervention, and understanding dynamics of human behavior. Knowledge of documenting resident records, security and discipline systems, laws and procedures governing high-security-residents, and behavioral intervention policies. Performance Management and Continuous Quality Improvement with Lean methodologies. Skills

Interpersonal communication, crisis intervention, and application of approved physical interventions when necessary. Documenting resident behavioral health records and maintaining security and order in an institutional setting. Oral and written communication in a residential setting; experience working with sexually violent persons and residents with mental health issues. Abilities

Observe and interpret behaviors of residents with psychiatric diagnoses and criminal histories; provide basic care as needed. Follow directions from supervisory or clinical staff; perform safety and security duties. Complete and document resident behavior in prescribed formats; rapidly respond to emergencies. One year of experience as a Residential Program Specialist 1 or three years of related care experience; or 60 semester hours toward a Bachelor’s degree in social or behavioral sciences plus one year of related experience. Pre-Employment Requirements

Must obtain and maintain CPR and NVCI certification; valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card per A.R.S. 41-1758.07. Position may require driving as an essential function; must have valid driver’s license. All newly hired State employees must complete E-Verify. Benefits
