As a key player of our Child Development Center team, the Assistant Director is responsible for the overall classroom atmosphere, the curriculum, the development of each child to their full potential and communication with parents and other classroom staff. Essential Responsibilities
Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature
Assist in managing all classrooms at the center and ensuring compliance with YMCA policies and procedures including Kentucky Child Care Licensing Rules and Regulations
Assist in the development and implementation of the program curriculum and program activities
Coordination of activity calendar and special events
Recruit, hire, develop and supervise staff teams
Ensure safety of all children by observing, keeping ratios counts, train of staff in the area of safety policies and procedures
Help to recruit substitutes and maintain an active sub list for staff
Practice continuous quality improvement, evaluating programs and implementing changes as needed
Complete administration work as required for center operations
Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings in conjunction with the Child Care Center Director
Assist the Child Care Program Director/District Supervisor in reaching enrollment and revenue goals. Communicate regularly with the Child Care Director, and maintain a confidential, professional rapport
Assist in maintaining record keeping at the Center to include children’s files and immunizations, staff files, and staff training records
Assist with budget development and monitor expenses for the Center as requested by the Director
Assist with supply requests and purchases at the Center
Host and/or attend child care trainings and all Family Events
Works hands-on to meet ratio requirements
Assume all other duties and assignments deemed appropriate by the Child Care Center Director, and the Branch Administration
Consistent positive attitude, modeling the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility
Candidate must be able and ENJOY working with ages 6 weeks – 5 year olds and be responsible for knowing developmental differences
Punctual, reliable, creative, and a self-starter
Can create and facilitate age-appropriate activities for young children
Principal responsibility for the health, welfare and safety of the children in the assigned classroom, and for ensuring quality programming
Provide a safe and welcoming atmosphere that meets all licensing regulations; maintain classroom and center cleanliness, sanitation, organization and appearance
Creative Curriculum, lesson plans, studies, assessments, parent conferences
Maintain all documentation – attendance, incident reports, food program counts, medication waivers, daily care sheets, et al – according to State Licensing and program requirements
Build and maintain open communication with children, parents, director and other staff
Attend all required staff meetings and trainings
Ability to care for young children in a group setting
Ability to work with others as a team
Degree in Early Childhood Education or CDA preferred
Experience in an Early Childhood setting required
Infant/Child/Adult CPR and First aid (30 days post hire)
Core Curriculum Training (60 days post hire)
Negative TB Test (every two years)
Minimum age 21 years old
Able to pass multiple-screen drug test
Physical Requirements Lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, stooping, sitting on floor or in child sized chairs, diapering, assisting with toileting, climbing, reaching, running, carrying or holding a child up to 50 lbs, pushing, operating a computer and swimming with children are all required functions of the position. Spending time outdoors during summer and winter months are also a requirement.
