Collects blood specimens, as well as receives, handles and processes specimens for Laboratory testing. Interacts with patients of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs and behavior. Receives, sorts and accesses specimens, assigning to appropriate pre-analytic and analytic workflow. Completes computerized tasks related to patient registration and/or test order entry, specimen collection, receiving and processing. Performs basic post-analytic tasks, including distributing reports, storing and/or retrieving specimens. Completes quality-related tasks such as documentation of work, maintaining a clean, stocked and safe work area, and monitoring pending work, as well as escalating priority work. Operates and/or uses basic pre-analytic lab equipment. Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies and procedures to ensure privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care. Responsibilities

Collect blood specimens and receive, handle, and process specimens for laboratory testing. Sort, access, and assign specimens to appropriate pre-analytic and analytic workflow. Complete computerized tasks related to patient registration and test order entry, specimen collection, receiving and processing. Perform basic post-analytic tasks, including distributing reports and storing/retrieving specimens. Maintain quality-related documentation, a clean and safe work area, and monitor pending work objects with priority escalation as needed. Operate and use basic pre-analytic laboratory equipment. Adhere to all local/state/federal regulations and organizational policies to protect patient privacy and safety. Qualifications

Education: HS Diploma or GED. Certification & Licensure: CA Licensed Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) I or II. Typical Experience: 1 year of recent relevant experience. Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of standard principles, processes, procedures, and equipment related to ordering laboratory testing, collecting blood specimens, and interacting with patients; ability to handle and process biological specimens routinely submitted to the Laboratory. Ability to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and tasks; ability to organize and prioritize duties; ability to interact compassionately with patients of diverse ages and backgrounds. Workflow Management: respond appropriately to volume fluctuations, equipment/IS failures, shift hand-offs, STAT orders, specimen integrity issues, and pending logs. Adherence to Practices & Procedures: follow standard practices and understand applicable regulations and privacy/safety policies. Pay Range is $31.23 to $39.03 / hour. The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs.
