Overview These 24-bed cardiovascular telemetry units specialize in post-open heart, surgical, and ventricular assist device patients. The units are fast-paced and provide excellent opportunities in nursing growth and development with the ability to care for patients undergoing innovative procedures. Patient population includes post heart surgery patients such as:
Coronary artery bypass surgery
Minimally invasive and robotic heart surgery
Ventricular assist devices
Valve replacement or repair
Other procedures, such as maze procedure, endarterectomy, aneurysm repair
Other common cardiac-related admissions include:
Angina/myocardial infarction
Congestive heart failure
Arrhythmias, such as supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia (VT)
Permanent pacemaker and defibrillator insertion and removal
Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing care.
Implement and monitor patient care plans.
Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.
Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
Minimum qualifications
Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program)
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
Successfully pass all prescreen competency assessments
External applicants: two years of recent related nursing experience
Internal applicants with less than two years’ experience, but post orientation/90-day probationary period, could be considered with the Chief Nursing Officer level review and approval
Will consider military RN experience
Preferred qualifications
Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN)
Physical requirements
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
