Key Responsibilities
Advises the Director on the hiring, retention, interviewing and recruitment of staff.
Initiates and maintains appropriate personnel records.
Assists in the development and implementation of ongoing educational programs for professional and support staff, including orientation, in-service continuing education, and training on new equipment or systems.
Provides ongoing feedback to employees concerning job performance through goal development, peer evaluation, and performance evaluations; counsels and disciplines employees under the Director’s direction.
Monitors all personnel and current expense budgets, providing information and/or justification of variances to the Director.
Recommends preparation of the annual budget for the cost center to ensure cost‑effective operations.
Ensures economical use of time, materials and resources through review of workflow and staffing patterns.
Communicates effectively with physicians, nurses and other personnel for problem identification and resolution.
Promotes customer satisfaction through timely response to customer perceptions of services.
Serves as a resource to appropriate QI teams.
Participates in staff meetings, in‑services and other activities to disseminate information to staff and physicians.
Spends funds in accordance with departmental budgets, ensuring cost containment.
Maintains effective communication with Medical Staff, patients, staff and other departments to identify problems and provide resolution in support of quality patient care delivery.
Assesses patient/family satisfaction issues during daily rounds and takes appropriate action to resolve.
Ensures adherence to all standards and policies set forth by WVU Medicine and accrediting bodies.
Facilitates professional development of personnel, overseeing orientation, training and continuing education.
Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates delivery of nursing care in accordance with Standards of Practice and Standards of Care.
Participates in outreach activities such as Speaker’s Bureau to promote good relationships with the community.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state of service location or a valid multi‑state RN license through the Nurse Licensure Compact.
Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Specialty certification desirable.
Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
Four (4) years of nursing experience with at least two years of management experience.
