Responsibilities

Administer medications, observe for complications, and intervene when emergencies occur.

Scrub to assist the Physician during all procedures (except PTCA) and run the Code 300.

Demonstrate accurate utilization of the new CERNER platform (E.H.R.) with less than 3 omissions of mandatory charting requirements within a 12 month period.

Check email for corporate and department communications.

Display knowledge and comply with the National Patient Safety Goals.

Implement an age‑appropriate plan of care in conjunction with the health care team per Scope of Service.

Attend all UofL Health required educational programs as well as all Learn (KNOW) Modules.

Demonstrate knowledge of drug therapy and document according to best practice.

Administer medications and IV fluids with 100% accuracy as demonstrated by a lack of physician, patient or peer complaint.

Use IV book to reference unfamiliar drugs before administering so that side effects and complications are prevented or reduced as demonstrated by a lack of physician, patient or peer complaint.

Check patency of IV site(s) so that drugs and fluids are successfully infused as demonstrated by a lack of physician, patient or peer complaint.

Complete nursing chart forms accurately and pertinently to record patient’s condition and progress as demonstrated by appropriate documentation.

Check narcotics according to policy and document wastage 100% of the time as demonstrated by the narcotics records.

Supervise nursing care of the patient in the cardiovascular laboratory.

Assist in the general preparation of the patient before procedure including assuring that the nursing data base is on the chart as demonstrated by the nursing data base and the lack of physician or peer complaint.

Continually anticipate patient’s needs, observe and assess patient closely for chest pain, E.K.G. changes and complications so that problems can be treated early as demonstrated by a lack of physician, peer, or patient complaints.

Exercise good judgment in making decisions, notifying physician and implementing patient care as demonstrated by a lack of physician or peer complaint.

Supervise nursing care of the patient post cardiovascular laboratory procedure.

Supervise care of the patient post procedure including close observation of catheter entry site, assessment of vital signs, pulses, and post cath instructions to facilitate patient’s compliance and healing of site as demonstrated by a lack of occurrence reports or physician, nursing unit, or peer complaints.

Act as a liaison with patient’s family, communicate with families during or after procedure as necessary and provide emotional support as demonstrated by a lack of family, patient, physician, or peer complaints.

Provide nursing care of patient post catheterization/P.T.C.A. when hospital bed in not available; transport patient to hospital bed and give report providing continuity of care as demonstrated by the smooth workflow in the lab and the lack of patient, physician, nursing unit, or peer complaints.

Demonstrate knowledge of Cardiac Catheterization procedures and equipment.

Scrub to assist the Cardiologist during procedures as needed as demonstrated by a lack of physician or peer complaint.

Operate the injector accurately, with speed and without assistance 100% of the time as demonstrated by a lack of occurrence reports or physician or peer complaint.

Operate the imaging equipment accurately and rapidly to assist the Cardiologist to visualize cardiac anatomy as demonstrated by a lack of physician or peer complaints.

Be familiar with 90% of the different catheter wires and balloons used in procedures as demonstrated by a lack of physician or peer complaints.

Complete the log book accurately and completely 100% of the time as demonstrated by the completed log book and lack of physician or peer complaint.

Contribute to the productivity and cost effectiveness of the department operation.

Maintain stock supplies of medications, IV fluids and tubing and charge for items used in patient care 95% of the time as demonstrated by appropriate stock levels and lack of lost charges.

Maintain professional demeanor during procedures so that patient care is the number one concern as demonstrated by a lack of physician, patient, or peer complaints.

Perform duties in an organized and efficient workflow and a lack of physician or peer complaints.

Demonstrate flexibility in work schedule and duties so that the work is completed in a smooth and expeditious manner as demonstrated by a lack of physician or peer complaints.

Responsible for participation in the mandatory call schedule. Completion of schedule, and scheduled cases prior to the end of the work‑day as required by the Cardiovascular Laboratory Supervisor or his/her designee. Demonstrated by a smooth running call system and lack of physician or peer complaint.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Assist in delivering high‑quality health care services in a professional, compassionate, and courteous manner while respecting the dignity and individuality of each person who comes in contact with the organization by following the Standards of Performance.

Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times according to established procedures.

Follow the Standard of Performance.

Communicate effectively and courteously answering assigned telephone lines within three rings identifying self at all times.

Assist visitors and patients in giving directions and information.

Communicate effectively and courteously with all visitors, physicians, patients and employees.

Introduce self and position to patient, families and visitors at all times.

Assess environment for safety hazards which could harm patients, visitors, or other hospital employees, and report hazards to appropriate supervisors.

Collaborate with either departments and outside agencies to meet the identified needs of the patients and the organization.

Responsible for RT/RN/CVT student and JH new employee instruction as it relates to JH policies and procedures and Cath Lab orientation processes.

Demonstrate knowledge of Sheath removal and maintain hemostasis.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensed or eligible for license in Kentucky.

Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA).

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required for some units.

Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
