CDI RN Specialist – St. Joseph Medical – $10K Sign On Bonus
Conifer Health Solutions is hiring a CDI RN Specialist at St. Joseph Medical. The role offers a $10K sign‑on bonus and a competitive annual salary.
Job Summary The CDI RN Specialist reviews medical records to facilitate and obtain appropriate physician documentation for clinical conditions or procedures, enabling accurate MS‑DRG assignment, risk of mortality, and severity of illness. The specialist demonstrates knowledge of clinical documentation requirements, MS‑DRG assignment, and clinical conditions or procedures, and educates the patient care team about documentation guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Record review: Complete initial record reviews within 24‑48 hours of admission, evaluate documentation to assign principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures, initiate a review worksheet.
Follow‑up review: Conduct reviews every 2‑3 days to support and assign a working or final MS‑DRG assignment by discharge.
Formulate queries: Generate physician queries for missing, unclear or conflicting documentation, obtain additional documentation as needed.
Collaboration: Work with case managers, nursing staff, and ancillary staff to resolve queries prior to discharge.
Training: Assist in training new department staff.
Professional development: Stay current with AHA, CMS, ICD‑9‑CM and CPT coding updates; attend mandatory coding seminars and quarterly coding updates.
CDI activities: Communicate and complete CDI activities and coding issues for follow‑up and resolution.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Display teamwork, commitment, initiative, and time‑management discipline.
Travel may be required.
Advanced knowledge of Medicare Part A and familiarity with Medicare Part B.
Intermediate knowledge of disease pathophysiology, drug utilization, and MS‑DRG classification.
Critical thinking, problem solving, and deductive reasoning skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of coding compliance and regulatory standards.
Excellent organizational skills for efficient workflow.
Regular and reliable attendance per Conifer Telecommuting program requirements.
Capacity to work independently in a virtual office or facility setting with required travel.
Understand and communicate documentation strategies; recognize opportunities for improvement.
Formulate clinically credible queries; maintain an audit and monitoring program to measure query process.
Apply coding conventions, official guidelines, and Coding Clinic advice to health record documentation.
Vaccination and Screening Requirements Conifer requires candidates, as applicable and as permitted by law, to confirm all required vaccinations and screenings prior to employment. This may include, but is not limited to, COVID‑19 vaccination, influenza vaccination, and any future required vaccines and screenings.
Education and Experience
Preferred: Acute Care nursing relevant experience.
Zero to two years experience.
Graduate from a Nursing program (BSN or graduate).
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
Active state Registered Nurse license.
Preferred: CDIP or CCDS.
Physical Demands
Ability to sit for extended periods.
Efficient use of computer keyboard and mouse.
Good visual acuity.
Work Environment The work environment includes normal office or remote work settings, occasional travel, and interactions with interdisciplinary patient care teams.

Must be able to travel nationally as needed, not to exceed 10%.
Compensation and Benefit Information
Pay: $72,509 - $108,763.20 annually.
