Principal Physician (40 Hour) – Office/On‑Site
Location
Middletown, CT – Connecticut Valley Hospital – Addiction Services Division (ASD)
Job Type
Full‑time – 40 hours/week Monday–Friday 8:00–4:30 – No on‑call requirement – Open to the Public
Compensation
Salary $241,644 – $315,292/year; Recruitment incentive up to $30,000; Annual bonuses: $3,000 for board certification; $5,000 for second board specialty (e.g., Forensic psychiatry, Addiction psychiatry)

Responsibilities Rounds and direct clinical oversight of multidisciplinary treatment teams
Coordinate work of medical staff with related programs
Review treatment plans, medical records, diagnoses and patient discharge plans for adherence to policies and quality standards
Provide education and training (grand rounds, case conferences)
Assess, examine, diagnose and prescribe appropriate medications and other biologic treatments for mental illness and substance abuse disorders
Consult on difficult and/or complex cases
Develop and implement Q/A/QI process improvement initiatives
Perform utilization review and management functions
Attend court hearings as a state witness
Qualifications Board‑certified physician in internal medicine, family medicine, or related specialty; board eligibility in addiction or forensic (as relevant)
Active license to practice medicine and surgery in Connecticut; temporary license allowed ≤1 year
Certification as a specialist in addictions medicine (ASAM) optional or required per job
Experience with substance abuse treatment and inpatient/outpatient psychiatric care; experience in addiction services desirable
Strong interpersonal, communication skills; ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
Proficiency in medication prescribing for mental illness and substance abuse disorders; QA/QI process improvement
Eligibility for federal health care programs as required
