13 weeks Summary:
The NICU Registered Nurse provides specialized care to critically ill and premature newborns in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). This role includes advanced neonatal assessments, operation of life-support equipment, and family-centered education and support. The RN collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and ensures adherence to hospital and regulatory standards while delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
Responsibilities
Assess and monitor critically ill and premature newborns, identify changes, and document conditions and responses
Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved neonatal nursing techniques
Perform neonatal assessments, including vital signs, weight checks, and specialized neonatal screenings
Operate and manage advanced NICU equipment (e.g., ventilators, CPAP, infusion pumps), ensuring proper function
Assist with life-saving and diagnostic neonatal procedures (e.g., umbilical line placement, intubation)
Educate and support parents on neonatal care (feeding techniques and developmental care)
Prepare equipment and assist physicians during examinations and procedures
Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
Adhere to infection control measures, PPE use, and sterilization protocols
Collaborate with neonatologists, therapists, and other professionals to optimize outcomes
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice
Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards
Required Qualifications
One year of recent experience as a neonatal intensive care RN
Valid RN license in compliance with state regulations
Current BLS (AHA/ARC) Certification
Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
Preferred Qualifications
Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing Certification (RNC-NIC)
PALS (AHA/ARC) or ENPC
Other certifications and licenses may be required for this position
Required Essential Skills
Critical thinking, service excellence, and strong interpersonal communication
English language proficiency (reading, writing, speaking)
Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions; PC skills
Physical ability to remain stationary, move equipment (50–100 lbs), push, pull, and bend
Ability to work effectively with a variety of personnel and maintain a professional demeanor
Technical/motor skills to assist with procedures and use department equipment
Mental ability to handle frequent public contact, work under pressure, and adapt to irregular schedules
Sensory: visual acuity and effective communication
