The Kodiak Island Borough School District is seeking applicants for the position of
AIDE IV - SPECIAL EDUCATION INTENSIVE SUPPORT
for the 2025-2026 school year.
Location:
Early Childhood
Hours:
6.5 hrs/day, 4 days/week (Tuesday-Friday) (9 months)
Salary:
Entry Range 16.5, Step 1: $22.76 per hour
Position Summary: The Aide IV assists the teacher and classroom, working with students with specific intensive needs on a one-to-one and/or group basis.
Qualifications:
Ability to work well with the public, students, staff, and parents.
Ability to carry out tasks assigned by the teacher/supervisor.
Demonstrate sensitivity, patience, and flexibility in working with students with special needs.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of students, staff, school business, materials, and information.
Possession of a valid State of Alaska motor vehicle operator’s license may be required.
Successful completion of training for verbal de-escalation techniques.
May need to complete physical intervention/restraint training.
Ability to safely lift and/or move up to 20 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to stay in close proximity to students.
Completion of annually required training related to special education.
Responsibilities:
Perform duties within Special Education throughout KIBSD.
Work with students with intensive needs (life skills, autism, behavior support).
Assist with personal care and hygiene as needed.
Transport, supervise, and support students in job sites.
Support IEP goals under the supervision of the teacher/supervisor.
Maintain confidentiality of all involved parties.
Assist in developing and using instructional materials and equipment.
Support safety procedures and supervise students during activities such as playground and field trips.
Mentor and train other aides, monitor classrooms, and implement behavior management programs.
Assist resource students and support cultural activities.
Attend IEP and staff meetings as appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned.
