Overview
Phoenix Children’s Hospital is seeking a Physician Assistant to join our growing abdominal transplant team. This position will be one of six APPs providing inpatient and outpatient coverage to the pediatric kidney and liver transplant programs. The Pediatric Kidney Transplantation Program began operations in 2002 and is the only active pediatric kidney transplant program in Arizona. The program has performed over 280 transplants since inception and typically transplants 12–15 patients per year with outcomes meeting or exceeding projections. The Pediatric Liver Transplantation Program was launched in 2012 and currently performs about 5 transplants per year with outcomes meeting or exceeding projections. The liver program follows over 150 active patients. This role collaborates directly with hepatologists, nephrologists, surgeons, and dedicated nutritionists, social workers, and pharmacists. The pediatric liver and kidney transplant programs are part of the Phoenix Children’s Hospital Transplant Center, which also includes bone marrow and heart transplantation. Six APP team provides inpatient coverage to the liver and kidney transplant programs seven days per week in rotation, and provides outpatient coverage to the liver transplant program when not inpatient. Inpatient work includes H&Ps, consults, and rounding on patients (primarily in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and transplant unit) for pre-transplant, transplant, and post-transplant care. Discharge education and care coordination are extensive in this role. Manage medically complex pediatric patients with end-stage liver and kidney disease, as well as post-transplant immunosuppressant management. Collaborate with residents, attendings, and multiple transplant disciplines; strong communication and interpersonal skills are required. Schedule: 10-hour days during the week with weekend 5-hour shifts. Provide 24/7/365 call coverage for the transplant program in partnership with five other APPs. Outpatient clinic is located on the Phoenix Children’s Hospital campus at 1919 E. Thomas; work autonomously and in partnership with multiple disciplines. Management of the transplant population including evaluations, consent for transplant, follow-up, and ongoing care coordination. Extensive patient and family education; supervise transplant medical assistants and registered nurses; participate in transplant-related committee meetings. Qualifications
Pediatric Physician Assistant licensure in Arizona. At least one year of PA experience in pediatrics or transplant is preferred. Previous inpatient clinical experience is required, preferably in a transplant-focused environment. Note:
This position works in collaboration with attending physicians and within their scope of practice to provide excellent clinical care for patients and may practice in hospital inpatient and/or outpatient settings.
