Overview
Clinical Research Coordinator - IL- College of Dental Medicine is a full-time grant-funded staff position at Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine (CDMI) in Downers Grove, Illinois. The grant CRC reports to the grant Co-Investigator in CDMI and serves as part of the grant research team. The primary responsibilities are to manage dental clinical research processes related to the grant, oversee CDMI faculty and staff on clinical practice-based research systems and electronic data capture systems, act as the liaison between the dental clinic, students, faculty, and the research team, and implement quality control procedures for grant-related studies within the Dental Institute. Applicants must be comfortable interacting with patients and working in and around an oral environment. Although housed in the Dental Institute, the role requires collaboration with faculty and students both preclinically and clinically. This is a grant-funded position with an expected term of 3 years. Occasional travel to local and national conferences to present novel clinical research outcomes is required.
Responsibilities
Execute clinical research tasks, including screening, enrollment of human volunteer participants into clinical practice-based research studies, obtaining informed consent, coordinating daily interactions with patients, clinicians, and lab personnel, managing study-related scheduling, and communicating Adverse Events to PIs and key personnel.
Provide daily support for ongoing clinical protocols, assist with clinical measurements and procedures (e.g., medical histories, vital signs, surveys, intraoral photographs, sample preparation), and perform procedures under supervision as appropriate (impressions/intraoral scans, radiographs, CBCTs).
Facilitate communications for active protocols with clinical monitors/research personnel; record data in dental and research records; address NIH data queries and randomize subjects; gather and disseminate feedback from subjects and investigators.
Ensure documentation compliance; train CDMI faculty and students on data collection methods; attend protocol presentations and training events; assist with audits by government regulatory bodies.
Ensure compliance with Midwestern University policies, IRBs, FDA regulations, HIPAA, and other applicable guidelines; assist with drafting and submitting IRB-related documents; maintain patient/subject confidentiality.
Assist in writing research outcomes for publication, participate in case studies, abstracts, and manuscript preparation; help maintain the college research website and social media presence.
Other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-Investigator (Co-I).
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university required.
3–5 years of work experience related to clinical research; dental assisting or dental hygiene experience is advantageous.
Clinical research certification (e.g., SOCRA, NIH OCR) desirable; experience in a dental office or hospital clinical setting preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work in a team and provide excellent customer service.
Computer proficiency with MS Office; familiarity with PowerPoint, EPIC, Canvas, cloud-based project management tools, and basic webpage updates desirable.
