This position has the responsibility for the supervision of nursing services in a clinic or emergency care unit. The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is the second largest municipal health system in the nation. RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises patient care delivery and nursing activities provided by the staff and collaborates with other disciplines and departments to provide care/services in assigned areas. Enforces and interprets regulatory requirements, nursing standards, goals, hospital and nursing policies and procedures governing patient care, security, safety, and unit operations. Evaluates and reviews evaluations of employee performance. Prepares formal answers to and recommends the adjustment of grievances and disciplinary action. Ensures that staff are qualified to work in the assigned unit, coordinating orientation of new staff, assessing and validating skill sets and coordinating in-service instruction and mandatory classes. SELECTION REQUIREMENTS: A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing. Two years of experience as a registered nurse providing direct administrative and technical supervision to nurses including registered nurses. Current certification in accordance with the American Heart Association's Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program. Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited nursing program. Any additional experience in excess of the selection requirements.
