The primary role of the Educators is to support the learning needs of staff and patients by providing opportunities for the acquisition of new knowledge, skills and behaviors in view of advancing technologies, changing health care delivery systems, expanding staff roles, evidence base practice and research. These opportunities include but are not limited to orientation, continuing education, formal and informal inservices, coaching and consulting.
The education department believes that South Texas Health System employee’s continuing education is a major asset in employee recruitment and retention.
Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY: The Educators will support the learning needs of staff and patients.
Qualifications
Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.
Education / Licensure
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.
Bachelors in Nursing with 2 to 3 yrs. experience or Master’s preferred.
If not currently a BSN nurse must be enrolled in a BSN program and obtain the degree within 24 months of hire. If doing a Bridge program A.D.N to MSN obtain within 24 months.
Must have and maintain current BLS. If not already certified in ACLS, and PALS must obtain within 6 months of hire. Must acquire Instructor Trainer Certifications for BLS, ACLS and PALS within 2 years of employment. Certification must be in accordance with the curriculum of the AHA, for Healthcare Provider’s Program. For Behavioral Health, the educator only needs the BLS instructor certification within 24 months.
CPI within 24 months.
Certifications
XACLS: If required in unit, nurse with a year or less of experience - obtain within 12 months of hire; nurse with over a year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire; or if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times
XPALS or ENPC: If required in unit, nurse with a year or less of experience - obtain within 12 months of hire; nurse with over a year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire; or if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times
NRP: If required in unit, nurse with a year or less of experience - obtain within 12 months of hire, nurse with over a year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire; or if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times
TNCC: If required in unit, must have and maintain certification within eighteen months after hire; or if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times
STABLE: If required in unit, must obtain within 12 months of hire, or if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times
CPI: If required in unit, nurse with a year or less of experience - obtain within 12 months of hire; nurse with over a year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire; or if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times
SAMA: If required in unit, - obtain within 30 days of hire
XBLSI: Obtain within 24 months of hire
XACLSI: Obtain within 24 months of hire
XPALSI: Obtain within 24 months of hire
