Job Summary:
The purpose of the Wound Care Nurse position is to support the nursing department and facility-wide directives through specialized focus on Wound Care. This job description is not all-inclusive but provides a general overview of some responsibilities. Major Duties and Critical Tasks:
Facilitates the operation of the facility Infection Prevention/Control Program and supports continuous quality improvement. Supports the facility and medical staff, departments, and teams including guidance, training, technical support, and ongoing learning related to infection prevention. Chairs the Infection Prevention/Control Committee and participates in other committees as assigned. Compiles and submits data related to Infection Prevention. Supports quality improvement activities with data support, analysis, and consultation. Monitors and maintains current knowledge of standards from accrediting and regulatory agencies. Develops policies and procedures supporting infection prevention and control. Consults with CNO, LTC DON, and managers to ensure infection control measures are followed. Identifies, investigates, and reports healthcare-associated infections through surveillance. Maintains logs with infection surveillance data. Stays current with CDC guidelines and definitions of healthcare-associated infections. Calculates infection rates and reports findings to the Infection Control Committee. Provides infection prevention orientation and in-service programs. Collaborates with HR on employee health issues related to infections. Makes recommendations for improvements and reports to relevant agencies. Follows standards set by APIC. Wound Care Specialist (WCS): Under general direction of the CNO, the WCS RN coordinates treatment, provides assessments, plans care, and supports wound management education. Acts as a resource for physicians and staff, and participates in quality improvement. Performs wound assessments and manages treatment plans. Possesses knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and wound management theories. Develops skin care and wound prevention programs. Implements policies for managing various wound types and conditions. Revises care plans based on patient response and evaluates effectiveness. Provides education to patients, families, and staff. Administers medications appropriately and maintains documentation standards. Acts as a liaison among physicians, patients, and product manufacturers. Qualifications: Current RN license in the state Wound Care Certification preferred Skilled Nursing experience preferred Good assessment skills, self-motivated, with excellent customer service and teamwork abilities.
