About ECU Health Chowan Hospital ECU Health Chowan Hospital in Edenton is a 25-bed critical access hospital that serves 110,000 people in six counties. The facility offers medical and surgical services, including intensive care, a specialty care clinic, and a dedicated outpatient surgery area with endoscopy capabilities. A 7-bed emergency department serves approximately 15,000 patients per year. Team members have access to a telemedicine link with the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.
Position Summary The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. The MLT understands method principles, performs quality control and calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results for accuracy, acceptability and critical limits.
As a MLT, You Will
Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing and perform laboratory tests specific to department.
Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity.
Communicate test results in a timely manner. Enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems.
Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment.
Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity.
Work alternate shifts as required.
Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy.
Minimum Requirements Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or current enrollment in an accredited Clinical Laboratory Science Program (BS) with completion of the specific laboratory rotation (e.g., Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Transfusion Services). Equivalent laboratory training and/or work experience with the U.S. military (2 years) will meet the education requirement.
Preferred Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency.

37.60 hours per week
Monday – Friday (7 am – 3:30 pm)
Required to work rotational weekends and holidays
