Jacobs Base pay range: $151,400 – $200,000 per year The energy industry is undergoing rapid change, transforming the utility landscape to enhance safety, reliability and sustainability. Jacobs is expanding its Transmission & Distribution (T&D) operations in North America and seeks a Principal Substation Engineer to tackle the complexities of decarbonization and utility modernization. As a Principal Substation Engineer, you will: Work closely with regional and global T&D delivery teams and support utility/developer clients on Substation design deliverables for utility upgrades, offshore wind facilities and developer interconnection sites. Provide engineering oversight and technical direction while acting as an independent technical advisor representing owner interests. Mentor team members across North America and globally and support the sales and proposal preparation process for new contracts. Qualifications: Master’s degree in electrical engineering or related discipline. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States. Minimum 12 years of direct Substation design experience with a utility or consulting organization. Advanced knowledge of High Voltage substation components (Transformers, Circuit Breakers, GIS, Switchgear buildings, Control houses, etc.). Experience developing Substation designs from concept through IFC drawings, general arrangement plans, conduit and trench schedules, grounding plans and construction details. Familiarity with grounding system design, lighting and lightning protection designs. Ability to perform substation AC/DC calculations, voltage drop studies and QA/QC of design calculations, construction drawings and specifications. Experience with CADD platforms such as Autodesk or Bentley products. Strong communication, technical writing and mentoring skills.
