Overview

Job Summary: We are seeking a Controls & Programming Engineer to design, program, and support automation systems and production test equipment. The primary focus is on controls engineering and machine programming (PLC, HMI, SCADA, automation test stands), with secondary responsibilities in IT-related integration such as data collection, system connectivity, and light network/database support. This hybrid role ensures that production equipment not only runs efficiently but also ties into higher-level business systems. Key Responsibilities

Program and maintain PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff, etc.) for production and test equipment. Design and configure HMI/SCADA applications for machine interfaces and process monitoring. Develop, debug, and maintain automation test stands (hydro, hydraulic, vision, end-of-line, etc.). Implement pass/fail logic and data acquisition for component and system validation. Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, mechanical, and software issues on production equipment. Maintain and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and I/O documentation. Integrate machines with databases, MES, and ERP systems for traceability and reporting. Configure data logging, reporting dashboards, and automated test reports. Write light scripts or applications (SQL, Python, C#, LabVIEW) to support testing, reporting, or system connectivity. Ensure network connectivity, system security, and backups for connected equipment. Support development of best practices for automation, data integrity, and system reliability. Required Knowledge & Skills

Proficiency in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal, or equivalent). Hands-on experience with HMI/SCADA development (FactoryTalk, Ignition, WinCC, etc.). Strong understanding of industrial automation hardware (sensors, actuators, VFDs, relays, control panels). Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profinet, OPC-UA). Familiarity with automation test stands and validation methods (hydro, hydraulic, vision, or similar). Basic skills in scripting or software programming (Python, C#, SQL, or LabVIEW). Understanding of data integration between machines and MES/ERP systems. Working knowledge of networking basics and IT security best practices in industrial environments. Ability to read and create electrical schematics and I/O documentation. Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills. Excellent communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams (engineering, quality, IT, production). Technical Skills Required

PLC Programming: Allen-Bradley (Studio 5000 / RSLogix), Siemens TIA Portal, Beckhoff TwinCAT, or equivalent. HMI/SCADA Development: FactoryTalk View, Ignition, WinCC, or similar. Automation Test Systems: Hydro test stands, end-of-line testers, vision inspection, or equivalent. Programming & Scripting: Python, C#, LabVIEW, or SQL (basic to intermediate). Industrial Networking: EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profinet, OPC-UA, basic TCP/IP configuration. Electrical & Controls Hardware: Sensors, actuators, VFDs, relays, safety circuits, control panel wiring. Data Integration: Experience connecting automation systems to MES/ERP or database platforms. Documentation Tools: Ability to read and create electrical schematics, I/O lists, wiring diagrams (AutoCAD, EPLAN, or similar). Version Control/Change Management: Familiarity with Git or automation code versioning is a plus. Benefits

Competitive salary ($70,000–$90,000 based on experience). Health, dental and vision insurance options. Supportive work environment with opportunity for growth. Company Description
