Overview VHB is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer/Project Manager to join the dynamic and growing Structures group in Wethersfield, CT. Hybrid work options available, with the option to work from another VHB office to support CT projects if qualifications are met.

About the Position Senior Structural Bridge Engineer/Project Manager – Lead role in planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and transportation projects. Responsible for client relationships, visibility, business development, and mentoring technical staff.

Responsibilities

Manages, develops, organizes, and implements structural planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for bridge-focused transportation projects.

Prepares proposals and/or contracts; participates in project decisions regarding technical approach, costs, and scheduling.

Responsible for client relationships, visibility, and business development.

Directs and mentors team members in design plans, technical oversight, specifications, design calculations, load ratings, cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, etc.

Project management and task management.

Reviews plans, specifications, reports, and analyses to meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.

Skills and Attributes

Extensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in structural engineering.

Demonstrated excellence in verbal presentations and technical writing.

Team oriented with strong capability to work independently.

Robust technical and critical thinking skills.

Detail oriented and quality focused.

Strong project management skills.

Motivated to lead and mentor others.

Knowledge of structural engineering software (AASHTOWare, LARSA 4D, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, Mathcad).

AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenBridge, MicroStation v8, and Connect experience is a strong plus.

Qualifications

8-11 years of professional experience in structural bridge design, construction phasing, and complex bridge projects required.

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required (structural emphasis preferred).

Master's degree preferred and may substitute for 1-2 years of experience.

PE license required.

Experience completing transportation studies, design reports, final design documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures including AASHTO & DOT.

Independent experience developing bridge design and detailing (steel, concrete, prestressed concrete), and seismic analysis.
