Overview
The Editor of Today’s Veterinary Business (TVB) is a forward-thinking media professional with exceptional editorial skills, leadership experience and a passion for supporting veterinary professionals. The Editor will lead TVB to new heights with their creative mindset, enthusiasm for print and digital media, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The Editor organizes, supervises and participates in the development of all content submitted for publication across TVBs multiple platforms. The Editor will assist the Vice President of Media Strategy in using progressive strategies to lead the growth in TVBs market share, quality, usage, reputation and financial performance.
Position Responsibilities
Oversees and ensures the efficient flow of content from conception to publication on print and digital platforms
Assigns and edits articles, ensuring production deadlines and editorial standards are met
Works collaboratively with TVB feature writers and columnists, helping writers add context, perspective and appropriate tone/voice to their content
Collaborates with the Art Director to complete the production of each issue (e.g., map review, copyfitting, writing display copy, etc.)
Stays abreast of news, trends and high-level discussions in the animal health industry and veterinary community
Develops relationships with sources and thought leaders in the veterinary community
Participates in editorial planning with the VP of Media Strategy to develop creative content strategies and an editorial schedule that meets TVBs readership needs
Works with the VP of Media Strategy to meet or exceed goals relating to audience growth and engagement
Develops new content programs and ideas to drive audience growth and engagement
Represents TVB and the NAVC at veterinary industry events
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in publishing or a related field
Bachelors degree in communication, journalism, a related field, or the equivalent work experience
Demonstrated expertise in the animal health industry
Excellent writing and editing skills
Superior editorial judgment and the ability to develop content that resonates with veterinary professionals
Comfort and demonstrated experience working on tight deadlines
Strong organization and communication skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Proficiency in using InCopy and InDesign to edit manuscripts and article layouts preferred
Experience with WordPress or a similar CMS preferred
Additional Position Requirements
Attend and participate in all editorial staff meetings
Assist in other projects – lists, awards, honors – as needed
Assist in podcasts and other audio/video/social elements
Ability to work flexible work schedules, including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed
