Audio/Visual Communications Data Link Engineer
Modern Technology Solutions, Inc., Upper Valley Trailer Court, Ohio, United States
MTSI is seeking a highly skilled
Audio/Visual Communications Data Link Engineer
to support an advanced air platform program. This role involves designing and integrating secure A/V communication systems and data links to ensure reliable transmission, display, and management of mission-critical information. The ideal candidate will collaborate within a cross-functional team to deliver robust communication solutions vital to the program's success. Responsibilities
A/V Communications Design and Integration: Develop and integrate secure audio/visual communication systems and multimedia solutions tailored to advanced air platform requirements. Implement seamless data link functionality for real-time communication, situational awareness, and mission data sharing across air, ground, and satellite networks. Data Link Technology Deployment: Design, test, and install advanced data link components to support encrypted data transmission and reliable communication protocols (e.g., Link 16, CDL). Ensure compatibility of A/V communications systems with platform avionics, mission processors, and networked architectures. Testing and Troubleshooting: Conduct functional and performance testing of A/V systems and data links in simulated and operational environments. Troubleshoot issues with audio signals, visual displays, and data transmission across different communication interfaces. System Optimization: Enhance system performance via signal analysis, spectrum management, and calibration of A/V and data link components. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify solutions for improving bandwidth efficiency, latency, and signal processing. Integration Within IPT Framework: Partner with systems engineers, data link specialists, and software developers within an
Integrated Product Team (IPT)
to ensure all systems meet mission requirements. Maintain alignment across teams to ensure seamless A/V functionality and secure communication pathways. Compliance and Documentation: Ensure all A/V systems meet DoD standards, including MIL-STD specifications and RMF-compliant cybersecurity protocols. Provide detailed technical documentation, system manuals, and reports for program stakeholders and sustainment teams. Qualifications
Required

Familiarity with RF signal transmission, audio processing, and data encryption protocols. Experience with A/V testing tools (e.g., spectrum analyzers, RF signal generators, or audio processing platforms). Must possess an active Top Secret clearance with eligibility for SCI. Desired
12+ years of experience in designing and integrating A/V communication and data link systems, preferably in defense or aerospace programs. Certifications that validate technical proficiency:
Certified Technology Specialist (CTS)
- AVIXA,
CTS-D (Certified Technology Specialist - Design)
- For advanced A/V system design,
CompTIA Security+
- To ensure alignment with secure system implementation guidelines,
CMMC-related certifications
(Certified CMMC Professional or Certified CMMC Assessor),
Certified RF/Microwave Systems Engineer
- For expertise in data link communication architecture,
Advanced VTC Systems Certifications
- For secure video teleconferencing platforms (e.g., Cisco or Poly). Experience in designing A/V systems for secure teleconferencing, high-res video feeds, and command displays. Working knowledge of software tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, or RF/Audio system analysis platforms. Strong collaboration and communication skills within cross-functional teams and IPT frameworks.
