Overview
Project Design Engineer - Transportation Infrastructure - Baltimore, Maryland Our Parsons Baltimore, Maryland office is now hiring for an experienced Project Design Engineer. In this role you will serve as an Area Design Manager on the Frederick Douglass Tunnel Replacement Program, overseeing design for work outside of the tunnel (estimated at $300M of construction value). Interface with CMAR contractor, Amtrak and other stakeholders as required. Lead a multidisciplinary design team of managers and engineers to develop design and support construction, including assistance with overall technical design integration and managing design integration and production of specific construction packages. This role offers hybrid remote working (2-3 days per week from home). Responsibilities
Act as Area Design Manager for the Frederick Douglass Tunnel Replacement Program, overseeing non-tunnel design work and coordinating with the CMAR contractor, Amtrak and stakeholders. Lead a multidisciplinary design team to develop designs and support construction; assist with overall technical design integration and production of construction packages. Coordinate design activities across disciplines to ensure timely and integrated project delivery. Required Qualifications
Minimum 12 years or more of rail project experience, including at least 5 years of interdisciplinary coordination. Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related degree. Participation in at least one major rail program, with at least one project engineering or interdisciplinary design coordination role. Subject matter expertise in one of the technical disciplines associated with rail infrastructure design. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of products. Successful record delivering multi-disciplinary projects, involving facilities and rail systems; experience with Design-Build or CMAR preferred. Successful record coordinating with owner project managers and technical representatives. Ability to communicate clearly in grammatically correct English, both written and verbal. Successful record coordinating with municipal and state agencies. Successful record of developing and negotiating contracts and contract modifications. Familiarity with AREMA, ADA, and NFPA 130 as they relate to rail passenger stations and tunnels. Professional Registration. Proven cooperative, collaborative management style with staff, partners, and customers. Desirable Qualifications
Familiarity with Amtrak. Familiarity with Section 106 compliance. Familiarity with Right of Way acquisition, including relocations. Familiarity with municipal roadway and utility relocation. Familiarity with private utility relocations and coordinating private with public construction. Participation in underground facilities projects, including risk management. Familiarity with development of Contract Drawings, Technical Specifications, Special Provisions, and construction agreements. Familiarity with rail project construction staging in urban areas and the relationship between third-party and Force Account construction and maintaining rail operations and vehicular traffic. Familiarity with rail project services during construction, including testing and commissioning. Familiarity with FRA or FTA safety and security certification. Security Clearance
